IT has been a very productive period for the CFA. WithSeptember’sissueofCFJ youwillhave received the latest version of the CFA members’ handbook and we are about to launch an updated CFA Guide to Contract Flooring.
The 2012 edition of the Guide to Contract Flooring is as ever written from the flooring contractor’s perspective and seeks to be a plain English reference to the installation of contract products.
The guide is also designed to be of interest to specifiers, designers and main contractors in providing an overview of what they need to do to support a CFA member in installing a good quality floor.
In this sense it can be used as a quick reference to send to a main contractor or end user to explain, for example, the need for a suitably dry substrate and perhaps why you are recommending the use of a surface damp proof membrane.
Given that as a construction industry we have been fitting floors for so many years, it amazes me that I still hear of main contractors who, when faced with a floor in excesses of 75% RH, argue that the installation of a surface damp proof membrane is excessive. Or sometimes even imply it is an attempt to add some unnecessary cost!
As one of my Council members said to me recently, it becomes tiring (not quite his words!) when you have to argue with main contractors to simply do your job. In this respect, please be aware we are able to help. Not only through the guide, our helplines with contractual and legal advice, but also with direct support. Give me a call! But I digress. The CFA Guide to Contract Flooring provides a simple way to demonstrate what a leading trade
association defines as the correct way to install floors. The Guide will be available in hard copy, a new handy A5 size, as well as from the CFA website in pdf format, both as a complete document as well as separate data sheets. So it is extremely easy to send out the relevant information to anyone who needs it.
The CFA Guide is based on British standards and whilst all contractors should have a copy of the British Standards that apply to the work they do (also available from the CFA at discounted rates) another difference is that the Guide to Contract Flooring is free of charge to members, as well as non-members.
While the message of the CFA members’ handbookandwebsiteentryistouseaquality, established and vetted CFA member, the Guide to Contract Flooring gives an understanding of how members will deliver a contract to a high standard, on budget and on time.
It is yet another way of demonstrating why it is preferable to use a CFA member with the support they receive. A hard copy will be accompanying each copy of CFJ mailed out next month. Additional hard and digital copies will be available from next month onwards from the CFA office. I can’t write an article launching the 2012 version of the CFA Guide to Contract Flooring without mentioning the army of people who have contributed to it.
Part of what makes this guide so significant is that it is written by industry for industry. Many of the contributors come from our manufacturers’ committee. But it also includes contributions from contractor members
of the CFA council, as well as other relevant experts. There are genuinely too many people to list, so I can only thank again everyone involved for their help.
The CFA is one of the leading trade associations representing the flooring industry. If you want an application pack or further information on the benefits of membership, please contact the CFA offices.
