Alan Bakalor writes: Why is it that so many people who write website blogs have a highly exaggerated idea of their own importance and influence?
There are a few blogs written by genuine experts who make sensible comments. But these are swamped by the multitudes who churn out mindless drivel that has not the slightest interest or consequence. Often blatantly attention-seeking, these sad ‘bloggers’ casually disgorge half-truths and distortions, often perpetuating their own ignorance or misinformation.
Why do I mention this? It’s because a certain blogger (someone involved in the flooring industry) took offence over recent comments in CFJ by Sid Bourne. Anyone who speaks their mind, like Sid, is bound to have both supporters and critics. Sid is perfectly capable of defending himself (as he does in the previous article).
However, this blogger also launched a nasty attack on CFJ and even uploaded a panel from this magazine. Much of this blogger’s criticism of CFJ is based on ignorance (not deserving a reply), but there’s also an element of spite. I won’t name the blog, because that could help push its number of ‘hits’ into double figures.
Proof reading is lax on many blogs, and this one is no exception. Forexample, it says an issue of CFJ is now ‘pubic’ (‘pubic’ was the word used in the blog, indicating its level of debate). You can offer your own smutty riposte. The serious point is, whether intentional or not, this schoolboy howler is ample reason why this blogger’s comments deserve to be treated with derision.
