Flooring firm ‘doubles again’ with second expansion

PENNINE Flooring, a supplier of commercial and decorative flooring products to the contract and retail flooring trade, has embarked on its second expansion moving from 3,750sq ft on Kingmoor Park South to Unit J on the Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone.

While its main base is in Heywood, the company has operated in Cumbria for more than 30 years. It also has premises in Deeside and employs more than 50 people across the UK.

In 2004 the company, in need of more storage space and aspiring to a location closer to the motorway, moved to a 3,750sq ft warehouse on Kingmoor Park South.

About 15 years on and it has expanded again moving into Unit J on Kingmoor Park Central within the Enterprise Zone. It has kitted out the 7,500sq ft unit to its own specification since the formal purchase in the summer of last year including a new trade counter, staff offices, showroom and racking.

Commenting on the latest expansion Damian Robinshaw, operations and human resources manager said: ‘We’re delighted to have completed a cross site move to Kingmoor Park Central in an expansion that will ensure our operation is able to be as streamlined as possible meaning that we can continue to deliver the quality service that our customers expect.’

Kingmoor Park is Cumbria’s only Enterprise Zone. The site as a whole is home to over 200 businesses and the employment figure is approaching 2,500. This year Kingmoor Park will celebrate its 20th anniversary with various events held over Spring and Summer including a special event in collaboration with Carlisle Youth Zone which has been sponsored by Brian Scowcroft, owner of the site since its creation in 2011.

Meanwhile, Neil McIntyre, Kingmoor Properties managing director said: ‘We’re delighted to have been able to assist Pennine Flooring with its latest move. Its new Unit has provided the perfect solution for its growing business and we’re pleased we could accommodate its latest expansion onsite thereby minimising disruption for staff and customers.

‘Our focus has always been on how we can adapt to meet the needs of businesses onsite and in Carlisle. This continues to be our main priority as we prepare to celebrate our 20th anniversary and look forward to the next 20 years.

‘We’re extremely proud of the businesses who have been able to expand on our site and we will continue to do all that we can to encourage and support this.’
