A CARPET tile recycling facility, claimed to be the first of its kind in the UK, has opened on the Wirral, Merseyside.
Regulated by the Environment Agency, the facility employs state of the art machinery designed to recycle the carpet tiles into products for the cement and road construction sectors.
It is operated by ECONPRO, a specialist in the development of recycled construction products and process and reportedly developed the UK’s first recycled plastic road kerbing system called Durakerb, licenced to Aggregate Industries in November 2010.
Econpro, established for over five years, reports having trialled systems to recycle bitumen backed carpet tiles. Its new system is said to have demonstrated its fitness for purpose for use on a commercial scale.
The facility can receive bitumen or PVC products in full tiles, trimming, off-spec, soiled either by pallets, bales or loose. A gate fee is charged comparable to the UK’s landfilling charge. Medium to long term fixed price contracts may be offered to suitable clients.
The company is keen to hear from manufacturers, flooring contractors and retail and commercial outlets.
