Fuel warning to van users

VAN users might welcome a recent slight dip in oil prices, but they should not expect to see it reflected at the pump in the near future, says THE FUELCARD PEOPLE.
Steve Clarke, general manager, says, ‘Many filling stations are independent franchises which charge according to the advance price at which they ordered stocks. If crude oil prices fall, refining and delivery delay this reaching users, while various middle men dilute the savings along the way.
‘By the time the supposedly
cheaper oil reaches the pump, crude prices have usually risen again. Even if they haven’t, filling station owners can’t afford to gamble on prices staying down because history shows that they don’t.
‘Nobody should be paying pump prices.’
He believes the only way to achieve real savings on diesel and petrol is through discount fuel cards.
