Altro and Kungshults nursing home
MORE than 1,200sq m of Altro Aquarius has been installed in the bathrooms of the 72 apartments in the Kungshults nursing home in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Altro Aquarius is a specialist safety flooring developed for use in wet and dry environments, providing optimum slip-resistance for shoe and bare foot use for the lifetime of the flooring, and a colour range suitable for creating home from home environments.
Architect Staffan Tjärnström at Sweco designed Kungshult's nursing home and suggested Altro Aquarius for the shower room floors.
He said, ‘The safety of residents and staff is a priority. Slip injuries can be very serious for older people and should be avoided. A common situation is that the residents are barefoot in their bathroom while the staff have shoes on. We chose Altro Aquarius as it provides safety for shoes and barefoot.
‘Another reason for our product choice is design - Altro Aquarius is available in various colours. Altro Aquarius ‘Swan’ has elements of gold and fits well with the wider design of the accommodation.’
Larry Edman, project manager at the municipality responsible for the construction of Kungshults nursing home, said: ‘Altro Aquarius is a good floor for wet-rooms. In more than a year since the accommodation opened, we’ve had no complaints about safety.’
Achieving Class B to DIN 51097 for barefoot use, plus PTV ≥50 (Slider 96), Altro Aquarius provides optimum lifetime sustained slip resistance in wet and dry environments. The range features plain and tonal chip options to help achieve high contrast and design flexibility.
It’s reportedly been extensively tested with various shoes and contaminants to ensure top performance in high-risk environments. It’s also said to be easy to clean.
