F Ball and Co - offices

F BALL AND CO says the improved version of its Styccobond F41 carpet tile tackifier is ideal for installing carpet tiles in areas where individual tiles may become damaged, worn or stained, such as in offices with busy walkways, and where chairs with castors are being used, the manufacturer says.

Styccobond F41 is a reportedly solvent-free, acrylic adhesive, which is designed to provide a permanently tacky film to prevent ‘loose-lay’ carpet tiles from moving laterally under normal traffic, whilst allowing individual tiles to be quickly removed and replaced if necessary.

After extensive research and development, F Ball says the adhesive has been reformulated to provide improved coverage capabilities. Additional benefits reportedly include a faster drying time and increased tack – while still allowing carpet tiles to be lifted easily when required. F Ball says flooring contractors will also notice that F41 is now significantly easier to apply as a result of reduced viscosity.

Styccobond F41 can reportedly be used for securing a wide range of dimensionally stable ‘flat lay’ carpet tiles backed with bitumen/felt, non-woven fabric, PVC and other polymer backings. It is said to be able to be applied over Stopgap levelling compounds, Stopgap waterproof surface membranes and a wide range of absorbent and non-absorbent subfloors, including structurally sound, smooth and dry concrete, sand/cement screed, plywood, raised access flooring panels and terrazzo. It is also reportedly approved for use in marine flooring installations and is suitable for use over normal under floor heating systems.

As well as being solvent-free, F Ball says, the carpet tile tackifier is certified EMICODE EC1 Plus, testament to its ultra-low VOC emissions, which make it suitable for use in office areas that need to remain in-use while the installation takes place.

As part of ongoing efforts to reduce the amount of plastic waste produced by the flooring industry, F. Ball has recently replaced its 5 litre plastic bottles used for many of its products such, including its carpet tile tackifier, with recyclable alternatives, which are said to be made from 95-98% recycled material, which is fully recyclable. The adhesive is also available in 15L rectangular buckets, and all containers are re-sealable for future use.

To check the compatibility of particular floorcoverings with Styccobond F41, contractors can consult F Ball’s recommended adhesives guide (RAG), which lists adhesives recommended for use with over 6,000 floorcoverings produced by over 200 manufacturers. The 2019 version of the guide is now available as a free app, and an interactive version can be found on the F Ball website. Contractors can also contact F Ball’s technical service department, from 8.30am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday for advice on floorcovering-adhesive compatibility.
