F Ball and the Lions Club
SAFETY vinyl floorcovering from Polyflor was part of the solution when F BALL & CO donated funds and adhesive products to help members of national charity, the Lions Club, create the Lions Eye Bus, a mobile cataract surgery for Uganda. The creation of the mobile surgery will help thousands of blind people in Uganda to see again.
The Lions Eye Bus will facilitate eye screenings and cataract operations in rural areas of Uganda that didn’t have access to ophthalmic facilities. The bus includes an ophthalmic examination centre with an operating table, surgeon’s chair, and full sterilisation equipment.
F Ball donated the funds to purchase the plywood required to provide the bus with a smooth, firm and substrate onto which a suitable floorcovering could be laid.
The company also donated its Styccobond F44 acrylic adhesive, which was used to install Polyflor safety vinyl floorcovering on the bus.
F Ball’s technical demonstration officer, Steve Gibson, went along to meet members of the UK Lions Club and install the final floorcovering himself, to ensure a safe, smooth and durable finish.
The Lions Club is made up of ordinary people who are committed to solving worldwide health and social problems. The money for the bus was raised through donations from 53 Lions Clubs in Britain, with added help from individual donors and companies, such as F Ball.
The bus was completed in 20 weeks and will soon be driven along the East African highway to Kampala, where it’ll be handed over to the Ugandan Lions Club members to continue its journey.
F Ball’s marketing manager, Richard Harris, says: ‘This is a very worthy cause and F Ball was delighted to be a part of it. The bus really will make such a huge difference to the lives of many people in Uganda. Providing products and installation assistance was just one part of the project – we’ll be following its journey across Africa closely.’
