Gerflor and Carrongrange
ZONING, statement floors and personalised flooring with logos are all key vogues we’re seeing an increased hunger for. Whether designing a new facility, or redesigning an existing one, the influence that flooring design can have on overall aesthetics, sustainability and performance cannot be dismissed.
The capacity to create a bespoke design or effect is crucial in the overall planning and layout of many retail, sports, education and office environments. After all, who wants to be the same as everybody else?
When specifying flooring in settings designers are increasingly seeing the benefits of luxury vinyl tile and sheet products to create the desired finish. With authentic patterns, endless colours and textures to choose from the possibilities for creating a stunningly beautiful floor are now endless.
The latest technological advances in vinyl production means that being creative with flooring has never been easier. Establishments can install a flooring solution that is high-quality, durable and on-trend and that’s in perfect keeping with the overall look and theme of the venue.
Whether a business chooses to zone or design an impactful statement floor, it can be achieved without compromising on durability or integrity. It’s a fact floor surfaces are a major visual element in most facilities and will have a significant impact on the internal environment for the user.
The use of bespoke logos and waterjet cutting on flooring design also creates brand awareness and reinforces the sales or corporate message.
Gerflor says it’s at the forefront to R&D with respect to supplying the manufacturing support and products to enable this bespoke look and feel for a range of its clients and installers.
With Gerflor’s My Taralay service customers can create its own bespoke ‘look’, says Gerflor. By being able to choose from 150 colours My Taralay provides clients with more than an 400,000 combinations.
This system allows a customer to select a design from four Taralay designs, then selecting a colour from a palette of 150 colours, which in turn provides this range of combinations. ‘It’s the ideal way to visualise a project and provides the perfect platform to show clients the suggested design before ordering,’ says Gerflor.
The other added benefit with the Gerflor systems is that by waterjet cutting, it can create bespoke designs and logos which further enhances the choices for designers and specifiers. It’s a real boon when a facility wants to customise its ‘look’.
Using this highly precise cutting method customers can create their own stamp or brand. Whether it’s a logo, signage on the floor or a bespoke laying pattern, anything is possible with striking precision, and apparently in incredible detail with Gerflor’s precision waterjet cutting technology.
When Falkirk Council in Scotland required flooring for Carrongrange which is an Additional Support Needs (ASN) school they turned to Gerflor to supply 4,000sq m of flooring products that could deliver stunning looks, durability and performance.
The requirement would also have to meet high traffic demands and be bespoke by way of logos and colours.
In fact, the pupils themselves had a hand in designing the badge for the new school, and by using Gerflor’s waterjet cutting system could have their new logo incorporated into Gerflor’s Mipolam Elegance flooring.
Jack Aitken, education design coordinator, Falkirk Council commented, ‘A need was identified for a replacement of our existing Additional Support Needs secondary school.’
On specification Jack Aitken added: ‘Falkirk Council has used Gerflor on several projects in the past and the products have been very well received on each occasion.’
You’d be hard pushed to find a head teacher who’s prouder of her school than Gillian Robertson. The head of Carrongrange High School loves every aspect of the new school commenting: ‘The total floor area is actually the same as the Larbert school, but the layout and colours of the flooring here makes you feel it’s so much bigger.’
Jack Aitken concluded at the time: ‘The new school only opened in August this year, and the flooring is performing really well. The staff and pupils are delighted with the Gerflor products.’
