LIFE can be very competitive and no more so than in the realms of business and manufacturing. It’s a world where the best, like cream, rises to the top scooping both deserved contracts and industry-related awards.

The office newbuild and refurbishment sector has, in recent years, seen massive growth and only those flooring manufacturers with a nod towards design, durability and performance are the ones making true strides forward.

At the International Design Awards (IDA) they reward the strategic thinking and imagination which goes into making a product which will be used, valued and perhaps even loved by its target market.

It’s this very same ethos that, Gerflor says, has driven it for over 70 years to produce a range of products aimed at delivering high quality, design-led flooring that fulfils this challenge. Therefore, it’s no surprise Gerflor says that its new Taralay Impression vinyl floorcovering collection has won a bronze award in the prestigious IDA product category.

Once again, it illuminates Gerflor’s ability to demonstrate its creativity and innovation in the vinyl flooring sector by delivering what it claims is ‘a truly stunning set of designs that surpass the expectations of designers, architects and specifiers’.

Suitable for the office environment, the Taralay Impression range is a multi-purpose vinyl floorcovering available in Comfort and Compact 2m sheet format with a Group T wear rating.

It’s said to be ideal for a host of heavy traffic environments where R10 slip resistance is a requirement. The 2017 collection displays a wide palette of 21 designs and 83 colours. It’s ‘an amazing array of choices’ conducive to creating tailor-made spaces; from classical to contemporary and bright, or welcoming and warm.

‘The new collection is a cornucopia of beautiful designs welded to incredible levels of performance, easier long-lasting maintenance AND now with a new patented surface treatment,’ says Gerflor.
‘The latest enhanced matt and embossed designs across the ranges for 2017 now deliver incredibly realistic effects that are producing some simply stunning results.’

The Taralay Impression flooring range is also equipped with the new Protecsol 2, patented surface treatment from Gerflor obtained by UV laser cross-linking, offering chemical resistance.

This treatment, claims Gerflor, avoids applying any acrylic emulsion throughout the lifetime of the product saving on cleaning time and money as it reduces water and detergent consumption.

As part of the 2017 collection there’s also the Taralay Uni Comfort range which is an acoustic multilayered vinyl floorcovering which has a very high density (VHD) foam backing reinforced with glass fibre and a calendered wearlayer (0.65mm thick).

‘It offers 17dB sound insulation and an indentation resistance of 0.11mm. It has a plain coloured pattern, making it ideal for cut design work and is protected by the UV cured patented surface treatment Protecsol, which enables easy maintenance and eliminates the need for acrylic emulsion,’ says Gerflor.

The company says it also offers designers a range of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) solutions with its Creation collection.

This range won the 2017 CFJ/CFA product of the year and their Creation 70 product scooped the coveted Red Dot Design award last year, which is akin to receiving a ‘design Oscar’, Gerflor says.
‘With a collection of vibrant modern designs, Creation 70 is a designer’s dream, providing a tough and durable solution and is available in 58 spectacular designs.

‘Equally stunning in looks is Gerflor’s Creation 55 which is a perfect match for moderate office traffic areas.

‘The sophisticated Creation 70 range offers a brand-new palette of realistic wood and mineral finishes in tile and plank formats with beveled edges. In addition to this, the looselay Clic System’s unique vertical interlocking format allows this product to be laid quickly over most existing surfaces, with no need to close premises during refurbishments saving customers time and money.’

The Creation range is said to be completely recyclable, REACH compliant and is treated with PUR+ surface treatment, providing ‘excellent cleaning characteristics and improved resistance to scratching’.

Houseology in Glasgow was born out of the architectural and design practice, Occa-Design. When the company moved offices in Glasgow city centre it took over a space in a converted mill building and renovating it from top to bottom it would need flooring products that could adhere to its design-led ethos.

‘The Creation range from Gerflor was the perfect choice and has provided the Houseology office with beautiful flooring for its reception, social hub, circulation spaces and meeting rooms,’ the company says.

Julie Paterson, senior interior designer from Houseology says, ‘This sublime look is enhanced by the Gerflor Creation Deep Forest flooring which our designers chose, owing to its warm tone and chic aged effect which complements the stylish industrial edge.’
