Gerflor Taralay Impression Control range

THE safety of school flooring and its performance in delivering a safe underfoot environment is becoming more focused as the size of some schools increase way beyond their original design in terms of pupil numbers.

Government legislation covering local education authorities requires that every part of a school shall be such that the health, safety and welfare of occupants are reasonably assured. Makes sense!

Gerflor won the 2016 CFJ/CFA product of the year category with their Taralay Impression Control range. This safety flooring collection is said to be suitable for the education sector. A multipurpose floorcovering available in 2m sheet format with a Group T wear rating, it’s ideal for a host of heavy traffic environments where slip resistance is a must.

Available as a dual collection: – ‘Safety in Wood’ and ‘Safety in Design’, the range includes realistic woods in contemporary colours and modern all over designs.

Taralay Impression Control also has a Pendulum Test value +36, meets HSE guidelines (BS 7976-2), a surface roughness of >20 RTM-RZ and R11 ramp test value (DIN 51130), together with providing 24 design-led colourways and is suitable for healthcare, education, retail, public spaces, offices and other commercial interiors.

Taralay Impression Control also reportedly offers a hygienic solution thanks to a UV-cured PUR surface treatment for easy cleaning and maintenance. With the Protecsol Control surface treatment it’s easy to clean, it’s 100% recyclable, offering what is said to be a state-of-the-art flooring solution for a myriad of education applications.

A perfect complement to the Taralay Impression Control collection is Gerflor’s Tarasafe Ultra range, which is a specialist slip-resistant vinyl safety flooring.

A product that’s inlaid with mineral crystals particles, as opposed to industry standard carborundum reportedly giving a brighter and cleaner appearance. It also comes with a tough PVC wearlayer and complies with HSE guidelines.

Tarasafe Ultra is reinforced with a glass fibre grid and is said to be suitable for use in all areas of heavy traffic where durability and hygienic conditions are also required.

Benefiting from SparClean surface treatment for extreme resistance to soiling and staining it’s also said to be treated with an anti-bacterial and fungicidal treatment. Tarasafe Ultra comes with a 12-year warranty and is also 100% recyclable.

Most schools in the UK have now put exercise and sport much higher on the curriculum for pupils and students.

Ensuring pupils can play sport on a safe and comfortable floor that also provides great performance is now seen as crucial. Injuries from participation in sport due to an inferior playing surface is simply not an option.

‘With over 70 years’ experience Gerflor offer a superb range of flooring solutions which combine technical and design characteristics for a range of sports and fitness environments,’ the company says. ‘The collection of sports and fitness products produced by Gerflor are the ideal solution for a vast swathe of education applications.’

Taraflex vinyl sports flooring from Gerflor has been used in many international and local sporting events and is available in 17 colours and three wood-effect designs, the company says.
It’s available in various solutions meeting different levels of the EN 14904 Standard delivering the full scope of indoor sports surfaces from P1 to P3 shock absorption solutions.

Taraflex is said to be recognised for providing durability, safety and comfort without impairing performance. A unique value proposition, the Comfort range offers greater than 45% force reduction, making it unrivalled in the marketplace in terms of offering comfort for users lowing the risk of long-term injuries.

Taraflex meets the EN Standard of 22196 for antibacterial activity (E coli – S aureus – MRSA) returning >99% levels of growth inhibition. The product is also treated with Protecsol, which renders polish redundant and is triple action meaning no polish is ever required, it’s easy to maintain and is anti-friction burn and slide/grip, according to Gerflor.

Taraflex has a double density foam backing and with another bonus, it’s environmentally friendly.
At the Streetly Academy in Sutton Coldfield, a full and varied curriculum is offered, enriched by its sports college status. When it came to refurbishment of the academy’s flooring needs, choosing the right products would be crucial.

Ensuring children stay safe in any school’s environment is key to Gerflor’s approach. Advanced Flooring Solutions based in Wolverhampton won the contract to transform this high-performing academy to a new height of excellence.

Lee Morgan, director, Advanced Flooring Solutions said: ‘Taralay Impression Control from Gerflor was chosen as a better alternative to other products because of its design and performance.’
Lee Morgan went on to further comment, ‘In fact all the Gerflor products provide a really good selection of alternative designs which we like very much.’

Lee also commented, ‘We find that Gerflor products are being specified more and more by architects and project managers.’
