Havwoods - Sports flooring
THE performance of a sports floor is dependent upon the interaction between the surface and its sub-construction. The Havwoods Havsport floors comprise of 22mm thick, solid hardwood planks that are combined with a reportedly high-performance range of batten systems, customised to suit various sub-floor conditions and construction heights. The 2-strip planks are currently available in beech, white oak and hevea. All are kiln-dried; a method that is said to be suited to floors where heavy-duty washing is required. The backsides are lacquered, the edges treated and the ends sealed for moisture resistance. Furthermore, the stave ends are finger jointed, and both these and the centre joints are glued, resulting in a plank that is said to be up to 20% stronger than one assembled with loose tongue and groove joints. Finally, the planks are sealed with six coats of acrylic-based UV lacquer; the top layers incorporating an anti-scratch formula that Havwoods says provides three times the wear-resistance of other solid wood sports floors. Four sub-structure systems are available: the MultiFlex advanced system, for dance, fitness and multi-purpose floors; two Sports Pro systems, both of which reportedly meet FIBA requirements; and the Multi Clip system, which Havwoods describes as a ‘revolutionary’ design that makes a highly significant difference to fitting times.
