Healthcare - Gradus
WHEN looking at flooring in healthcare facilities, it’s important to think about stair safety. Stair-edgings can be installed to prevent trips and slips from occurring, while maintaining the interior aesthetic.
The Gradus XT range of stair-edgings claims to offer the ultimate solution in reducing slips, trips and falls on stairs and supports the recommendations in the latest building legislation and standards.
‘The range is available with a choice of slip-resistant inserts that extend around the leading edge of the stair edging. This ensures that foot contact is always made with the slip-resistant element of the stair edging, providing maximum safety underfoot and minimising the risk of a slip,’ says Gradus.
‘The new Xtra-grip insert provides increased surface roughness and, when combined with XT profiles, offers one of the most robust stair-edging solutions on the market.’
Gradus continues: ‘XT aluminium profiles feature a unique locking mechanism that secures the slip-resistant insert in place on both the tread and riser. This removes the need for an adhesive bond between the insert and channel, increasing the resistance to moisture ingress and making the profiles ideal for use in healthcare environments, where floorcoverings are subject to more frequent cleaning regimes.’
To ensure partially sighted patients and staff can perceive step-edges, by observing light and dark, it’s also important to achieve a tonal contrast between floorcoverings and stair-edgings. Gradus says its stair-edgings have LRVs so specifiers can achieve the correct contrast.
