Hospitality & leisure - F Ball & Co
FOR hospitality and leisure facilities, subfloor preparation products should complement high quality floorcoverings to achieve an aesthetically-pleasing finish, while also having the strength to withstand footfall over a long period of time. Its therefore imperative optimum floor preparation products are used in order to deliver long-lasting, high quality floors.
Such was reportedly the case at 5-star luxury Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane, London, where Styccobond F3 and Styccobond F40 flooring adhesives were among the F Ball products used to refurbish the flooring.
Flooring contractors from Welwyn Design were called to the hotel after the proprietors decided the main ballroom and the corridors leading to it needed refurbishment. ‘On arrival, the contractors found the carpet floorcoverings had already been removed, as refurbishment work was already underway at the hotel.
‘The concrete subfloors were dry, clean and in good condition, so there was no need to install a levelling compound prior to the installation of the new floorcoverings.
‘By using high performance, market-leading products, contractors were able to achieve the perfect finish required for such an illustrious hotel, applying new luxury Axminster carpet floorcoverings throughout the 4,000sq m area.’
With the hotel ballroom and corridors receiving a significant amount of foot-traffic all year round, it was crucial the installation was durable. Once the subfloors had been prepared, contractors applied Styccobond F40 to create a release bond for the new installation.
Once the adhesive had dried, the contractors installed a new underlay to protect the carpet and to provide added comfort. Styccobond F3 was then used to permanently bond the new 12-row Axminster carpet to the 4,000sq m area.
Styccobond F40 High Tack Adhesive is a synthetic polymer emulsion designed to provide a dual-bond system. It can also be used as a permanent or release-bond adhesive when fixing carpets. It’s reportedly water-based, and dries to form a transparent, permanently tacky coating.
The type of bond achieved when using Styccobond F40 is dependent on when the floorcovering is laid into the adhesive. By laying the new underlay once Styccobond F40 had dried to a tacky coating, contractors ensured the new carpet installation could be lifted when required without significant damage being done to the subfloor or the floorcoverings.
This apparently ensures future replacement flooring refurbishments can be undertaken quickly and easily.
The company says: ‘With more than 40 years on the market, Styccobond F3 is recognised as the UK’s most used flooring adhesive. It’s a water-based rubber/resin flooring adhesive which offers excellent wet grab and benefits from an early build-up of strength. It’s also protected against biodegradation.’
Commenting on the use of F Ball products at the Grosvenor House hotel, Simon Gauduchon, director of Welwyn Design, said: ‘We’ve used F Ball products for 30 years and we’ve never had issues. The products always work well, and their reps are always available if you need advice.’
He further commented: ‘Obviously with such a large job for a very high-profile client, we couldn’t risk anything going wrong. With F Ball you know exactly what you’re going to get – good, reliable products.’
With the right preparation products, floors in hospitality and leisure facilities can boast the optimum conditions for aesthetic and practical, long-lasting purposes.
