A bow to our sponsors
A fantastic range of sponsors’ prizes was awarded to CFJ/CFA Flooring Apprentice of the Year winner Alistair Craig from Lynas Carpets, says Mick O’Flynn
T HIS year Alistair Craig who works for Lynas Carpets in Lanarkshire was the deserving winner of the CFJ/CFA Flooring Apprentice of the Year competition.
Alistair was absolutely delighted with the massive range of prizes including tools, equipment, products and a £500 cheque received from the competition’s sponsors who included manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
The team of judges agreed Alistair’s competition entry was outstanding, covering everything they were looking for; the case studies were comprehensive with photos clearly showing Alistair working on a large range of projects with excellent workmanship across various floorcoverings and projects.
The work covered in the portfolio included welding, grooving and seaming and together with fantastic support from his employer and college, there was no doubt Alistair was this year’s standout winner.
Peter Lynas, Alistair’s employer said: ‘Alistair has shown a great thirst to build his knowledge in all aspects of domestic and contract flooring and attention to detail has always been an important aspect of his character.
‘We’re therefore delighted to see the hard work Alistair has put into his apprenticeship has been acknowledged and rewarded in the CFJ/CFA national competition.’
Mark Purdie who is responsible for floorlaying courses at the City of Glasgow College was also highly complimentary and said: ‘Alistair has acquired a superior knowledge of the flooring industry and appreciates the quality of the products that he has been installing.
‘He’s worked in the high-end sector of the trade and recognised the need to produce a superior finish to the installation. He’s shown a wide range of installation skills and is always looking to improve techniques by practising and trying out new installation ideas.’
The fantastic support provided by the sponsors is vitally important to maintaining and stimulating interest in high quality apprenticeships, especially as there are many changes taking place with apprenticeships at the moment.
In that vein, I’d really like to sincerely thank the sponsors below on behalf of the CFA and CFJ, for getting behind the lifeblood of our industry and providing a range of high-quality prizes which I’m sure many skilled floorlayers would love to win.
