‘Eco pouches’ for repair and floor finishing compounds

FULLY recyclable ‘eco pouches’ for its repair and floor finishing compounds are among new packaging alternatives from F Ball & Co aimed at cutting the amount of plastic waste produced by the flooring industry.

Says the company: ‘Apart from requiring significantly less plastic to produce than the products’ previous packaging, eco pouches deliver additional benefits for customers, including extended product shelf-life and increased durability. They’re also waterproof, lighter and easier-to-handle.’

Products available in eco pouches include F Ball’s recently launched Stopgap Micro Rapid, which it describes as a new ultra-smooth, flexible, rapid-drying floor finishing compound for creating a flawlessly smooth subfloor finish over plywood and hardboard sheets, as well as filling the gaps at joints between panels and indentations formed by screws used to secure them.

Continues the company: ‘It can also be used to repair minor surface defects in a wide range of other absorbent surfaces, including sand/cement and calcium sulphate screeds. It is ideal for use where an ultra-smooth surface is required to prevent imperfections affecting the finished appearance of new floorcoverings, such as when installing luxury vinyl tiles (LVTs).’

The latest addition to F Ball’s range of floor finishing and repair compounds reportedly utilises the same advanced cement technology as the company’s fast-track levelling compounds. ‘It’s walk-on hard from just 20 minutes after application, and priming isn’t required prior to use, making it perfect for use when working to tight time constraints and deadlines.’

Stopgap Micro Rapid is a water-mix product, supplied as a pre-blended dry powder, protein-free, making it suitable for use in biologically sensitive areas, and its beige colour allows for easier marking out, says F Ball & Co.

‘The product is available in 8kg eco pouches, which can be easily resealed and transported, allowing contractors to use as much of the product as needed and keep the rest to hand until required.

Other packaging innovations from F Ball aimed at reducing plastic waste include the introduction of fully recyclable 5l plastic bottles for the company’s gauging liquids, primers and tackifiers and a 20l recyclable bottle for its Styccobond F41 carpet tile tackifier.’

F Ball & Co has also entered into a partnership with ‘Recofloor’, the vinyl take-back scheme pioneered by Altro and Polyflor, to trial a scheme that provides contractors with a convenient means of recycling the new plastic bottles and buckets. The initiative provides recycling points at select distributors across the UK where contractors can dispose of empty F Ball & Co five and 20l bottles, for free, so they can be reprocessed multiple times.
