Surface preparation company: We’re flying the flag

ESTABLISHED in 1991 and based in Lincoln, The Preparation Group is a specialist in surface preparation, removal, retexturing, polishing, and cleaning. It says it offers cost-effective solutions with the largest and most innovative range of equipment in the UK, adding that its focus is to provide a one stop shop for environmentally friendly solutions for all types of surface preparation.

Offering shotblasters, planers, grinders, and multi-strippers, manufactured in the UK, The Preparation Group also sells accessories for these machines.

Says the company: ‘We have a technical team which can provide the right solutions for every requirement. The Preparation Group can also offer overnight delivery across the UK and in some cases same-day delivery, holding large stock levels to ensure equipment and tools are always available.’

The Preparation Group, led by founder and managing director Tracey Glew, says it’s committed to providing environmentally friendly, clean, easy to use and low maintenance equipment with professional guidance and training for efficient sustainable results in surface preparation.

‘Our contracting division PPC (UK) Ltd prepares thousands of metres of concrete every month in readiness for final applications to be laid,’ says the company. ‘Preparing subfloors and screeds, for epoxy resins, coatings and many other resilient floor finishes we provide 24-hour support for our contractors and our operatives ensuring all eventualities are covered. We carry out 98% dust-free operations in hundreds of different types of situations.

‘We provide services for the removal of laitance, adhesives and bitumen using different equipment as necessary, alongside having the ability to clean, refurbish and renovate many different types of resilient flooring. Our teams are all trained to NVQ level for preparing and profiling substrates and have continual professional development provided in our own training school.’

‘We manufacture some of our range here in our workshop based in Lincoln and at present it’s increasingly important for many of our customers who want to buy equipment made in the UK. We Fly the Flag!’ says Lesley Collins, business development manager. ‘Our equipment offers a range of solutions for all surface preparation needs. All our equipment is robust, reliable and offers simple operation and maintenance. Many of our competitors’ equipment is complicated and presents time- consuming strip-downs for servicing, which causes lengthy periods of downtime.’

Lesley continued, ‘We’re delighted to become a member of Made in Britain, giving our customers the knowledge they are helping rebuild our British economy through their choice in equipment. Customer service wise, our recent introduction of QR codes for H&S, starting and operating procedures provides our customers with a great digital customer experience with regard to the operation of equipment, which was an award-winning initiative.’

Tracey Glew says 2020 was probably the most challenging year in the company’s 30-year history. ‘Like all businesses we’ve had to adapt, change and review how we work, with the key focus on keeping everyone safe throughout.’

Concluded Lesley: ‘We hope all our staff, customers, their friends and families continue to stay safe through these very strange times, and that the country manages to unify in bringing the economy back to where we were and better. Let’s fly the flag and buy British and support those companies who are doing their best to stay afloat!’
