Launch of 2021 Flooring Apprentice of the Year coming up

Look out for the launch of the 2021 Flooring Apprentice of the Year Competition in the next issue of CFJ.

This award, organised by the CFA and supported by CFJ, highlights the hard work and achievements of flooring apprentices from across the UK, showing the importance the industry places on training and ensuring that fitters within the industry, regardless of their age when entering the sector, are competent and skilled. The competition has become a regular feature in the flooring industry calendar since it provides a platform for apprentices to showcase the skills they have learned during their apprenticeship. For the companies which employ the apprentices involved, it shows their commitment to training their workforce and their investment in the next generation of flooring fitters.

The 2020 winner was David McGrath from MacGregor Flooring Company Ltd in Hamilton, Scotland. David had excellent recommendations from both his employer and his tutor and was able to provide a wealth of photos and experiences as a case study, which the judges were impressed with and which enabled them to come to a unanimous decision that David was the winner. David received his award from Shaun Wadsworth, the CFA’s Training Manager.

The 2020 CFJ/CFA Awards were presented in September, highlighting excellence in 25 different categories. Richard Catt, the CEO of was one of the judges and also presented the event’s top award – Installation of the Year. This went to Karndean Industrial Flooring and AB Flooring at Tool & Gauge Kitchen in Somerset.

CFA would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who entered the awards, to congratulate the winners and to thank once again all the generous sponsors.
