BAL Level Fast ultra-quick setting leveller

SOMETIMES speed is everything. How many times do fixers and fitters turn up to a job and the floor isn’t ready for tiling – despite assurances? For small jobs, sometimes you haven’t got time to wait for traditional levelling compounds to set when you’ve only set aside one day for tiling.

To solve this problem, BAL says it’s introduced the new BAL Level Fast ultra-quick setting leveller, so floors can be walked on in only 30 minutes and ready to tile in just 45 minutes.

Says the company: ‘Crucially, the market-leading R&D team at BAL have engineered a longer ‘wet edge’ of 10 minutes. This provides fixers with the confidence to mix multiple bags and ensure a smooth join between pours.

Designed with anti-shrinkage technology, BAL Level Fast provides the perfect substrate for tiling small domestic projects.’

BAL continues: ‘Formulated with Fibre Strand Technology (FST) for improved flexibility and resilience, BAL Level Fast can be used from 2-30mm bed depths. Importantly it can be used over timber floors from just 3mm – where other fast track levelling compounds must be used at a minimum of 10mm over timber.’

This, says BAL, saves time and money for fixers; being able to cover areas over three times greater in size. ‘A 10-15-minute pot life ensures enough time to mix and use, while self-smoothing and self-healing technology ensures a perfect, flat surface with no cracks or bowing beneath the tiles. What’s more, a smooth ‘one pour’ formulation with excellent flow makes for ease and speed of installation.’

The company points out that BAL Level Fast keeps the edge for rough terrain and is suitable for most surfaces including sand:cement screeds, overlaid timber, tongue-and-groove floorboard, single layer ply, tile adhesive residues, existing unglazed tiles, or natural stone. It says it can also go over flooring grade mastic asphalt, tile backer boards and anhydrite/calcium sulfate screeds

The company continues: ‘BAL Level Fast exceeds BS EN 13813 CT – C30 – F7 and has been engineered with anti-shrinkage technology meaning it won’t bow or crack during the rapid-hardening process. Protein free, BAL Level Fast is available in 20kg bags. While it’s suitable for some small commercial projects, for larger projects BAL still recommends BAL Level Max especially when a pumpable installation is required.’

‘A resounding thumbs up’
BAL says since its launch in September last year, fixers have given the new product a resounding thumbs up. Dave Dewar, D Dewar Tiling said: ‘I tried five bags to get a first coat on a floor. I’m a fan of the Level Max, so expected a nice product. It went down fast and didn’t begin to set too quick, I had time to get a roller over it.

‘I popped out for an hour, and when I got back it was fully dry, no damp patches at all. Overall, a good product if you’re needing to get on your floor quickly after levelling!’

Bespoke Tiling Solutions Ltd added: ‘It’s exactly what you need when you’ve got to level a floor quickly. It was absolutely solid within the hour, easy to mix and no lumps,’ while Karl Fortune of Fortune Tiling said: ‘An amazing product to work with.’
