SATRA invests in new equipment

SATRA’s floorcoverings team has recently taken delivery of a new, state-of-the-art, castor test machine for assessing the performance of resilient floorcoverings.

The machine assesses the performance of floorcoverings when subjected to wear from castors fitted to seating, such as office chairs.

Floorcoverings team leader, Phil Weal, said: ‘As 2021 progresses, we have seen increasing demand for the testing of floorcoverings. This is owing to the proposed introduction of the new UKCA mark to replace the CE mark in Great Britain following our exit from the EU, and pent-up demand following the recent lockdowns.

‘This investment of about £30,000 demonstrates SATRA’s commitment to the floorcoverings sector and will allow us to continue to offer our high level of customer support to the industry. In addition, it now means we have two castor test machines – one dedicated to resilient floorcoverings and one for textile floorcoverings – doubling our capacity.’

SATRA, as well as being an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory for the testing of floorcoverings, is also an approved body for issuing UKCA certification for floorcoverings.
