‘Unique floorplan’ incorporates 12 different carpet tiles

THE use of software and apps for visualising project installations, concepts and layouts is a trend that will continue to grow. As well as its Shaw Contract Floor Designer app (available for iPhone and iPad and free to download from the App Store), Shaw Contract also works with contractors and designers directly to help visualise ideas and layouts.

The company says the Daiichi Sankyo project in Uxbridge is a great example of this collaboration. Says Shaw Contract: ‘It features an inspiring installation of Shaw Contract’s Living Systems carpet tiles, a collection of plank carpet tiles created for design flexibility with organic and textural aesthetics that shift naturally throughout a space.’

Tetris UK worked closely with Shaw Contract Visualisation Services to create what’s described as a unique floorplan incorporating 12 different carpet tiles in the 990sq m space. ‘This project demonstrates how the Visualisation Services team could take the client’s flooring concept sketch and create a comprehensive visual tool to showcase the project flooring design.’

The plan also was reportedly a practical reference tool for the installers, Bracknell-based ProFloor, as the team could quantify and position tiles easily and realise the design, section-by-section.

UK design team Tetris was challenged with creating design continuity in an open-floor concept for the Daiichi Sankyo pharmaceutical company headquarters project near London. The new office required a range of meeting and open offices to stimulate collaboration between colleagues while spurring creativity.

The overall goal was to create an invigorating space to guide the business to its next level of growth. Designers divided the open office space into a series of smaller breakout meeting areas. The Living Systems carpet tile colour palette was chosen to incorporate the company’s brand colours and create spatial differentiation between teams without using physical barriers or wall separations.

Says Shaw Contract: ‘The playful transitions of the open plan area were chosen for a calming ambiance providing a backdrop for focused work, while reflecting a biophilic design aesthetic. Tetris’s clients wanted the organic concept to flow throughout the large space without overpowering the design. The design and client team sketched these general ideas on the office 2D floor plan. The Visualisation Services team took these basic ideas and created a detailed 2D conceptual layout for the client, a complimentary Shaw Contract service.

‘The plans showed how 12 different plank carpet tiles from the Living Systems collection could enliven the space with colour and biophilic detail. Likewise, the 2D visualisation showcased how the textures and colours in the Living Systems collection work as a systematic approach to bridge spatial areas in the workplace.’

The company continues: ‘This guide also helped determine the approximate quantity of each carpet tile to order while providing a key to ease on-site installation for the flooring installers, an added value of the partnership with Shaw Contract.

‘Tetris chose seven carpet styles in Living Systems for the entire floorplan; these styles combine to reflect how the natural world evolves and bridge different collaboration areas in the space. The solid vibrant colours used in the meeting rooms keep the energy levels high and encourage productive and collaborative meetings, while the playful transitions of the open plan offer a more calming backdrop to focus work.’

Concludes the company: ‘Overall, the new energetic office space of Daiichi Sankyo supports collaboration, creativity, and flexibility in the workplace through the use of Shaw Contract Living Systems carpet tile collection. Shaw Contract is also launching another new tool to help contractors and designers with visualisations on its UK website. Called View My Room, it enables users to select an image from their own device to visualise, using a specific product style.’ 
