AG Flooring, founded by Alan Gayle in 1989, is a mainstay of the commercial flooring industry. Here is the company’s story…
FOUNDED in 1989 by Alan Gayle, AG Flooring was strategically named after himself. Alan thought this worked particularly well as back in those days people would refer to phone directories such as the yellow pages to find traders and with his initial starting with ‘A’. This meant the company had prominent placement in the phone directories.
The company currently supply flooring services for all public sector bodies and commercial entities in the following regions: northwest, northeast, Yorkshire and north Lincolnshire.
AG Flooring specialises in supplying and installing various contract floorcoverings, including commercial vinyl, vinyl tiles, floor preparation works, contract carpets, carpet tiles, entrance matting and bespoke solutions for wet-rooms.
Additionally, it offers a comprehensive selection of flooring accessories to complement your chosen flooring materials.
AG Flooring focuses on providing floorcoverings for various public sectors, including local health authorities, councils, education sectors, care homes, retail, and local businesses. The company says its expertise in these sectors ensures it understands and cater to the unique flooring requirements of each client.
While AG Flooring is a relatively small company, it says its dedication to quality is unparalleled. With a team of five skilled installation professionals and two office staff members, the company maintains a personalised approach to every project. It has four fully qualified fitters and in addition, one team member who is due to complete his apprenticeship later this year.
As part of its company ethos, the contractor prioritises skill development by investing in apprenticeships, with plans to expand the team further in the coming year.
The company says it’s proud to advise it gained a place on the Hard Facilities Management 2 (Hard FM) Framework as a compliant and government-approved supplier.
AG Flooring say it’s pleased with this achievement and to be working with the many UK public sector bodies using NHS SBS Frameworks. Additionally, its long-standing membership with the CFA and involvement in industry leadership roles underscore its commitment to excellence of industry standards.
With more than four decades of experience in the flooring sector, AG Flooring says it’s solidified its position as a prominent entity in the industry. It’s extensive engagement with the CFA underscores its commitment to the industry. The company’s longstanding membership with the CFA, coupled with Alan’s profound expertise in flooring, culminated in his appointment as president of the CFA between 2012-2014.
Presently, Alan continues to serve on the council for CFA and FITA, the training division of CFA.
AG Flooring says it can deliver high-quality commercial flooring services that prioritise safety, efficiency, and affordability. Providing informative support throughout, its dedication to customer satisfaction, coupled with industry expertise, ensures every project is executed to perfection.
The installation team consists of apprenticeship-trained professionals or those who are currently completing an apprenticeship. Alongside this, AG Flooring provides regular health and safety, environmental and product-specific training to all employees.
The company’s estimator boasts 40 years of experience in the flooring industry and continues to enhance his knowledge through ongoing training initiatives.
One project the company recently completed consists of a flooring replacement at Fairfield House, an office block based at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. The scope of work included replacing the floor throughout the whole building as well as replacing the vinyl on all the staircases and main corridors across the hospital.
AG Flooring is committed to sustainability, as evidenced by its sustainability development plan, setting out its policy, action plan and performance indicators highlighting its commitment to improvement.
The company says it promotes eco-friendly practices such as a cycle to work scheme whereby encouraging employees to cycle wherever possible. Alongside this, the flooring contractor promotes the use of public transport and ridesharing. Additionally, it aims to transition to electric vehicles where possible and recycle all waste materials including many of its office supplies such as paper, ink cartridges and coffee pods.
It’s also restructured the process for quantifying product requirements and keep stock checks updated to reduce the number of materials ordered thereby ensuring minimal waste is produced.
The company says its primary challenge throughout the next year revolves around maintaining workflow stability amidst economic uncertainties and particularly concerning government spending owing to its work being predominately government funded work.
Additionally, its focused on addressing the shortage of quality apprenticeship candidates and training providers, which poses a significant hurdle for the flooring industry’s future growth.
In September 2022, at the CFJ Awards, Alan won the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Flooring Industry Award’ in Coombe Abbey, Warwickshire. He was presented with his award by Jo Caulfield, stand-up comedian and 2022 host.
