The CFJ Awards recognises individuals and companies who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the flooring industry. Each year, the event celebrates the innovators, skilled professionals, and businesses that have gone above and beyond, setting new standards of excellence. These awards honour the dedication and expertise of those shaping the future of flooring, recognising outstanding work in design, installation, and product development. Below is our Hall of Fame, consisting of those individuals who have been awarded for either outstanding contributions or lifetime achievements:

Keith Shenton

2019: Award for Lifetime Achievement

At he time of winning his award, Keith was the oldest floorlayer in the company, aged 86. Hailing from Nottingham, where he started his career in flooring as an apprentice, Keith spoke vividly about dogfights that took place over the city during the Battle of Britain

Beverly MacFarlane

2020: Award for Outstanding Contribution

Beverly MacFarlane, dubbed ‘the queen of flooring’ by her colleagues at Loughton Contracts, was a deserving winner owing to all the hard work and dedication she showed contributing to the flooring industry, most notably in CFA groups

Peter Kelsey

2021: Award for Outstanding Contribution

Having built Designer Contracts into one of the UK’s largest flooring contractors, Peter has earned a reputation for steady leadership and the type of constant innovation that leads to success. He’s notable for his contributions to charity and the welfare of his staff.

Alan Gayle

2022: Award for Outstanding Contribution

Alan Gayle founded his own company, AG (Alan Gayle) Flooring, and via his work in the CFA and across the larger flooring industry, has distinguished himself as a giant of the industry. On a personal level, he is revered as a true gentleman and a keen golfer.

Hamish MacGregor

2023: Award for Lifetime Achievement

Flooring is big business north of the border, but Hamish MacGregor proves you can be hugely successful while remaining humble. The family business he founded, MacGregor Flooring, is one mark of Hamish’s success, while his tireless work as a former CFA president is another.

Carl Nicol

2023: Award for Outstanding Contribution

A larger-than-life personality, Carl founded Westcotes Flooring, which has gone on to have remarkable success at the CFJ Awards against the biggest commercial contractors. Shortlisted in 2022, he went on to win the accolade for outstanding achievement in 2023.

Shaun Wadsworth

2024: Award for Outstanding Contribution

Nominated for this award by one of the biggest flooring contractors, Shaun has been lauded far-and-wide for the excellent work he’s done as CFA training manager. Improving training standards and attracting talent to the industry are two of his greatest contributions. 

Robert ‘Bobby’ Pike

2024: Award for Lifetime Achievement

Robert ‘Bobby’ Pike served the industry for 48 years before retiring, aged 70, in 2024. Born at Victoria Hospital Old Town at Swindon, Wiltshire, his former colleagues at Market Place Flooring calculated he’s probably laid about 1.2m sq m of flooring in his career.
