Forbo’s Marmoleum selected for Carbon-12 exhibition
FORBO’s climate positive (carbon negative) Marmoleum flooring is one of six low carbon materials selected for Material Source Studio’s new Carbon-12 installation.
Designed to be an educational conversation starter, it’s hoped the exhibition will promote knowledge sharing with regards to bringing about positive environmental change in the built environment.
Aimed at architects, specifiers and interior designers, Carbon-12 is a new immersive, insight-led installation. With carbon at the centre, its name reflects the most abundant form of carbon, making up 98+% of the carbon elements on Earth.
Hosted at Material Source Studio Manchester and Glasgow, the exhibition seeks to bring together the perspectives of design practices and material manufacturers, while comparing and contrasting the challenges and opportunities associated with achieving sustainability in the built environment.
Forbo Flooring Systems’ climate-positive Marmoleum flooring is one of six low-carbon products and materials spotlighted, appearing alongside six perspectives from architectural practice thought leaders from MLA, Gensler, Sheppard Robson, Chapman Taylor, HOK and SimpsonHaugh.
Says Forbo: ‘Forbo’s own brand of linoleum, Marmoleum, is independently certified as climate positive (carbon negative) from cradle-to-gate, without offsetting, meaning every square metre of the flooring actively contributes to removing 0.663g CO2 from the atmosphere, going beyond net zero emissions to positively impact the climate. ‘Manufactured from up to 98% renewable raw materials, including rosin, wood flour, linseed oil, jute and limestone, Marmoleum is one of the most sustainable floorcoverings available on the market.’
Speaking about the installation, Donna Hannaway, head of marketing UK and Ireland at Forbo, said: ‘We’re incredibly proud to have been asked by Material Source Studio to be a part of their Carbon-12 installation – testament to the environmental credentials of our Marmoleum flooring.
‘With sustainability more important than ever for the built environment, the onus is on us as manufacturers to provide architects and designers with the products, materials and solutions they need to build greener. Carbon-12 is a really powerful exhibition, designed to create conversation around carbon, the built environment’s relationship with carbon and how we can tackle carbon imbalance for the future, together.’
Darren Clanford, co-founder and creative director at Material Source Studio, added: ‘Carbon-12 has been curated as an educational conversation starter. Providing a platform to practices currently blazing a trail in their approach to decarbonised design and construction, plus makers and manufacturers all at different stages of their carbon reduction journey.
‘The common consensus across all exhibited is that they’re taking action in some form by investing in the future – and that can only be a good thing. We all want to see and maintain a decarbonised construction industry. But in a way that’s practically possible, taking into account the wider economic challenges faced by the sector and within the timeframes needing to be worked to.
‘Carbon-12 presents the materials on display to encourage further conversations around how we might tangibly achieve more sustainable practice for future generations to come.’
Experience Carbon-12 at Material Source Studio Manchester or Glasgow until the end of 2025, with no booking required for architects, interior designers, and property professionals.
