MARLDON raised a whopping £15,663 in St Catherine’s Hospice, Lancashire Moonlight Walk in June in memory of late business owner, Vincent Whiley.
‘We were delighted to be able to provide much needed support to the St Catherine’s Hospice in memory of Vin,’ says Gemma Coulthard of Marldon. ‘They have to raise £4.25m each year in order to be able to keep operating and it’s such a valuable service as we recently experienced firsthand.’
‘The walk was fantastic – an amazing event during which we even managed to dodge the rain. Eight members of the team took part on the night from different areas of the business so it was great to get us all out there doing something different. There were two options, an 8m and a 6m, but everyone managed to slog through the whole 8m and we completed it in just under two-and-a-half-hours.’
The much-loved Vin had been courageously battling Myeloma for more than 10 years before staying at the hospice. ‘If you know Vin, you know just how much he’s given, not only to the business but to every single one of us who’ve had the privilege to work with him,’ says the company.
The company adds: ‘A true leader, mentor, and friend, Vin has shaped the company with his kindness, strength, and tireless dedication over many, many years. Now, it’s our turn to give back. We walked in honour of Vin, and to support the incredible care given to him and so many others at St Catherine’s. We were so grateful for any donation, big or small, in support of this incredible hospice.’
‘St Catherine’s provides care to over 1,600 people in different ways each year,’ says John Rullo, head of fundraising at St Catherine’s Hospice. ‘We do everything possible to ensure that patients and families are given the palliative and end of life care they wish for at every stage possible. Our vision is to help people experience quality of life to the end of life, whether that is at the hospice or at home. Vin was a special person in so many ways, he had something that brought a smile to the faces of those he came in to contact with. Part of what drives our team is the privilege to care for people when they need us the most. We’re extremely proud we had the chance to support Vin and his family.
‘It’s obvious he impacted so many others in the same way he did us. The team at Marldon has embraced St Catherine’s in a way we’ll always be grateful for. The passion they’ve shown to fundraise and take part in our Moonlight & Memories Walk recently has raised £15,663. At a time where hospices around the country are facing increased cost and challenges related to funding, we’re honoured they’re channelling their loss in a way that will help others in the future. It costs about £8,300,000 a year to provide all our care and services. Every donation makes what we do possible.’
