INDEPENDENT flooring consultant Richard Renouf, CFJ columnist and head judge of the independent judging panel for the CFJ Awards, has published an anthology with other members of his writing group to raise funds for their local children’s hospice, the East Anglia Children’s Hospice.
‘I’ve been writing for CFJ for the best part of 10 years, ever since setting up as an independent flooring consultant,’ says Richard. ‘Soon after doing so, a local tutor set up a creative writing group and I thought this would be a great way to get feedback on my writing and to develop new approaches to bring variety and prevent the articles becoming ‘samey’. Whether I’ve achieved that will be a matter for CFJ readers to judge, but it’s meant every two weeks I’ve had to write pieces in all sorts of different styles which have then been critiqued by the other members of the ‘Scribblers’ group.’
Jill, one of Richard’s group, does fundraising for the local children’s hospice and it was her dream for some time to publish an anthology to raise funds for the East Anglia Children’s Hospice.
After more than two years work getting the pieces together and finding sponsorship to pay the printer, the anthology For Want of a Nail arrived and the box was opened at a recent Scribblers meeting.
‘I’m one of four contributors who have submitted a selection of their short stories and poems and none of the articles are about flooring,’ says Richard.
‘I’ve had lots of my technical writing published, but this is the first time I’ve contributed to something like this. I’m nervous about the possible comments and feedback, but excited to think the money raised will help the ongoing work of the hospice.’
For want of a nail is available for a donation of £10 to the hospice and can be obtained by contacting Richard.
