KICK-START Publishing is proud to announce the three members of its inaugural editorial board. Part of our rejuvenation as the independent voice of the industry is to have appointed an editorial board which met for the first time in February. Helen Bastin, communications team leader at Altro; Kenny Smith, managing director of MacGregor Flooring; and Richard Renouf, independent flooring consultant and founder of Expertise with Integrity, will meet twice to three times a year to help CFJ implement important and, if necessary, radical changes. The board will work on a revolving basis so other manufacturers and contractors have the opportunity to bring their views to CFJ.
Helen Bastin is a seasoned communications expert with over 30 years’ experience in marketing communications, campaign development, European public relations, event management and internal communications for high-profile organisations. Her background reflects a robust blend of strategic planning, creative thinking and operational excellence, making her a respected figure in the communications field and a trusted advisor for organisations seeking effective engagement. Helen is also a trained mental health first aider.
Kenny Smith has dedicated his professional life to the flooring industry since embarking on his journey in 1985 straight after leaving school starting as a trainee estimator with Semtex. After joining MacGregor Flooring Co in 1989 he steadily climbed the ranks, ultimately achieving the position of managing director over an impressive 41-year career. His commitment and expertise have shaped his successful trajectory from contracts manager to managing director, showcasing his deep knowledge of the field. Outside of work, Kenny enjoys unwinding on the golf course and engaging in padel, blending his passion for sports with a well-deserved break from his industrious commitments
Richard Renouf is an independent consultant and consultant member of the CFA, a member of the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and a provisional member of the Expert Witness Institute. He’s also worked as an independent expert witness for furnishings complaints for more than 28 years, writing reports and giving evidence in court claims. He’s also a community first responder, attending 999 calls to save lives in his community – so he knows how to deal with matters of life and death.
