SPECIALIST Flooring Group has delivered a fast-track flooring project at the NHS Paddock Wood Medical Distribution Centre, reportedly overcoming high moisture levels in the screed with UltraFloor Suppress IT.
The result is said to be a safe, durable, and seamless floor finish that met with the client’s tight programme and design requirements.
Project overview
Specialist Flooring Group was appointed to deliver a full flooring package at the Paddock Wood Medical Distribution Centre in Tonbridge. Working with UltraFloor products, the team managed every stage of the project, from subfloor preparation to the installation of the final coverings.
The challenge was not only to meet strict deadlines but also to ensure the new flooring matched existing finishes in a highly functional medical facility.
Scope of works
The project began with extensive subfloor preparation. Specialist Flooring Groups’ screeding division carried out a 50mm pumped cement flowing screed, then the flooring division applied UltraFloor Suppress IT moisture vapour suppressant and UltraFloor Level IT Two smoothing compound, reportedly creating a durable foundation for the new coverings. Flooring-grade plywood was also supplied and installed to chipboard areas where required.
Says the company: ‘UltraFloor Suppress IT is a water-based, solvent-free, single-component moisture suppressant designed for use as a two-coat primer membrane. Capable of suppressing residual moisture in new construction, it protects up to 95% relative humidity (RH) in screed, enabling earlier installation of floorcoverings without priming.
‘Supplied in a resealable 5l pigmented orange formulation (for coverage control), its easy-use design and rapid-dry profile make it suitable where time and moisture issues are constraints.
‘There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.’
Continues the company: ‘With a set time of 2.5 hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floorcoverings after just eight hours, making it an ideal choice for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two-component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time.
‘Once the subfloor works were completed, our flooring division moved on to the main installation. This included the supply and installation of Polyflor Verona vinyl sheet throughout the building, finished in the colour Rich Black. To provide a hygienic and professional finish, the vinyl was fitted with capped and coved skirtings using Gradus accessories.
‘At the entrances, Specialist Flooring Group installed Floorwise Endurance matting, ensuring durability in high-traffic areas, and replaced all stair-nosings.’
Outcome
Adds the company: ‘Despite some programme adjustments, the project was completed on time and to the client’s satisfaction. The finished flooring system delivered a seamless match to the original design, offered durability for a demanding medical environment, and met all safety requirements.
‘The use of UltraFloor products ensured any moisture issues were resolved effectively, securing the long-term performance of the installation.’
Conclusion
It’s said the Paddock Wood project demonstrates Specialist Flooring Group’s ability to adapt quickly to changing client requirements while maintaining high-quality results.
‘Through effective teamwork between their screeding and flooring divisions, close collaboration with UltraFloor, and proactive communication with the client, Specialist Flooring Group was able to overcome technical and programme challenges.’
Concludes the company: ‘The result is a robust, safe, and visually consistent flooring solution that will support the ability for years to come.’
