MAPEI Ultracoat is a range of water-based floor finishes, designed to protect all types of wood

MAPEI Ultracoat is a range of water-based floor finishes, designed to protect all types of wood, while reportedly providing a raft of safety, health and environmental benefits.

‘Best-selling products for contract floors include Ultracoat Premium Base primer and highly resistant Ultracoat HT 2K lacquer, both now available in bigger, cost-effective units,’ says the company.

Water-based primer Ultracoat Premium Base is a two-component undercoat that’s designed for preparing solid and pre-sanded wooden floors and surfaces under repair for water-based finishing cycles. The treated timber can be sanded after 12 hours or varnished after two hours.

The company continues: ‘Ultracoat HT 2K is a water-based finish designed to protect wood floors exposed to high levels of foot traffic and provide high resistance to abrasion and skid-marks from rubber soles. The varnish has a 100% polyurethane formulation and is aliphatic, so won’t yellow over time.’

It adds: ‘It’s offered in four gloss levels which protect and enhance timber tone, without altering appearance, and also provides resistance to bacterial attacks. Finished floors are dust-dry after 25 minutes, touch-dry after 40 minutes and can be returned to use after between 36-48 hours. For exotic hardwoods, application of Ultracoat Premium Base is recommended.

‘Ultracoat treatments are NMP-free, with low VOC emissions and high insulation. They also have Bfl-s1 and Cfl-s1 fire resistance certification and EC1 R Plus by GEV. Ultracoat Premium is offered in a 0.5 and 6 litre unit and Ultracoat HT 2K is available in a 0.5 and 5 litre unit.’
