Northampton Care Home gets a luxurious update with UltraFloor’s flooring solutions’

IN autumn 2023, the skilled team at Tricas Flooring says it was thrilled to take on what it describes as an exciting new project – a 1,500sq m flooring refurbishment at a Northampton-based care home.

From initial consultation to the final installation, Tricas Flooring worked closely with the care home management to ensure a seamless, efficient process that minimised disruption to residents and staff alike.

The challenge
The 1,500sq m project was divided across three distinct levels. The ground floor required products suitable for a concrete substrate, while the first and second floors utilised a timber wood frame construction.

In addition, the final flooring choice across all three floors was sheet vinyl, which required an exceptionally smooth subfloor to ensure a seamless, bump-free finish.

The solution
Tricas Flooring’s long-standing partnership with UltraFloor reportedly gave it confidence UltraFloor could supply the ideal subfloor preparation materials for this refurbishment project. To begin, the entire 1,500sq m area was primed with UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer.

Says the company, ‘Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sq m at a 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.

‘To achieve the best results possible, three of UltraFloor’s award-winning smoothing compounds were used throughout the site. The products used were Level IT Renovate, Level IT Two and Level IT Super Flex 30.’

The company continues, ‘Developed for the renovation of existing floors, Level IT Renovate is fibre reinforced for added strength and to minimise the risk of hairline cracks. Suitable for deep applications from 3-40mm, Level IT Renovate is multi-purpose for extensive use and boasts excellent flow properties, making this flexible and versatile floor leveller ideal for a wide range of flooring substrates.

‘There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects.

‘Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.’

Adds the company, ‘With a set time of two-and-a-half hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floorcoverings after just eight hours, making it an ideal choice for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two-component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time.

‘To complete the installation, Level IT Super Flex 30 was trowel applied at a 3mm depth. Level IT Super Flex 30 has a high polymer formulation for excellent flexible properties, making this the leveller of choice for steel mezzanine decks and flooring grade plywood.’

Results
The 1,500sq m project began in September 2023 and completed on time, and within budget, in February 2024.

On selecting UltraFloor, Alex Page, director of Tricas Flooring, shared: ‘UltraFloor are the most cost-effective and efficient products on the market. The products are consistent and reliable which gives me the confidence in knowing the job will be completed to the standards required and on time.’
