OILED wood floors have always provided an attractive alternative to traditional lacquered finishes. The ease of use and the natural look oils give the floor have always appealed to clients and designers and modern innovations to reduce drying times and increase durability have helped to drive this along.
Says Junckers: ‘Junckers ECO 2K Floor Oil is a high-quality oil developed to intensify the natural beauty of wood and at the same time ensure long-lasting durability. It can be used as a single or two-component product, where a hardener is added to make the oil tougher and more resistant to foot traffic.
‘Part of Junckers’ market leading range of floor surface treatments and maintenance products, ECO 2K Floor Oil is available in Clear, Antique Oak, Black, Dark Coco, Driftwood Grey, Harvest Oak, London Grey, Nordic, Quiet White and White. With some types of timber, a good-quality coloured oil such as ECO 2K can often produce a more uniform colour than coloured primers which you would use with lacquer treatment systems.
‘The oil is buffed onto the surface, creating a uniform look whereas a coloured primer needs to be applied with a little more care to avoid roller overlap and stop marks. It’s also possible to use ECO 2K Floor Oil as a primer and then apply one of Junckers’ water-based lacquers such as HT700 or MT500 Floor Lacquer on top. Be aware that oils and lacquers aren’t always compatible, the safest option is to use products from the same manufacturer and to check they guarantee their products for use together.
‘All ten shades add a rich finish, enhancing the natural beauty of the timber by emphasising the natural wood grain. Usually, only one coat is needed, reducing time on-site and making the job cost-effective.’
Adds Junckers: ‘The oil soaks into the wood fibres and fills the pores, impregnating the wood to protect it and make it very wear resistant whilst leaving the surface looking more natural than with a lacquer applied on top. Compared with the process of resealing a floor with lacquer, oiling is significantly quicker and easier.’
Concludes Junckers: ‘Regular oiling means the condition of the floor remains consistent, benefitting from ‘little and often’ attention.’
