ULTRAFLOOR, which describes itself as a brand in high-performance flooring solutions, recently partnered with Tricas Flooring to complete an ‘impressive refurbishment project’ at a primary school located in the charming village of Alvechurch, Birmingham.

Background
Crown Meadow Primary School, which serves as a vital educational hub for the local community, required a flooring upgrade that could withstand the daily rigours of active young students while providing a safe, comfortable, and visually appealing learning environment.

The challenge
Completing the renovation work before the start of the new school term was a top priority, as the installation absolutely had to be finished on time to avoid disrupting classes and inconveniencing students and staff.

To ensure the demanding deadline would be met, Tricas Flooring developed a comprehensive installation schedule to keep the project on track.

The solution
On 27 July 2024, the flooring renovation project kicked off. The experienced crew arrived on-site, ready to transform the space with brand new, modern flooring. Before new materials could be installed, the old flooring needed to be removed.

Tricas Flooring meticulously pulled up and disposed of the old flooring and using specialised grinding equipment they carefully buffed away any old adhesive residue, until the subfloor was completely clean and smooth.

Says UltraFloor, ‘With a perfectly prepped surface, the subfloor was now ready for priming with UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer. Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. ‘Once cured, Level IT Two multi-purpose floor leveller was applied to a depth of 3mm, across all areas of the school. There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.’

Continues the company, ‘With a set time of two-and-a-half hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floorcoverings after just eight hours, making it an ideal choice for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two-component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time.

‘In the main corridors and select classrooms of Crown Meadow Primary School, Forbo Marmoleum Decibel Authentic Shell 3075 was carefully installed using UltraFloor Stick IT 611, a superior, water-based adhesive that ensures flooring remains firmly in place for years to come.

‘In the toilet areas, where moisture resistance and hygiene are top priorities, Polyflor Vogue Ultra Grasshopper 5540 vinyl flooring was the material of choice and fixed with Stick IT 640, a very low emission adhesive designed for vinyl, PVC and rubber floorcoverings.

‘To complete the project, UltraFloor Stick IT 542 adhesive was used to install carpet tiles across several classrooms. UltraFloor Stick IT 542 provides a permanent tacky film when applied to stable and smooth subfloors – the ideal adhesive for fixing carpet tiles and loose-lay PVC floors or floorcoverings with PVC backings.’
