Celebrating apprenticeships and the future of the flooring industry

Earlier this month, National apprenticeship week offered an important moment to recognise the value of apprenticeships across our industry. For many flooring businesses, apprenticeships are far more than a training pathway — they are a commitment to the long‑term resilience, skills, and future of the trade. Apprentices bring fresh perspectives, energy, and a willingness to learn, while employers play a crucial role in passing down craftsmanship, standards, and industry pride. At Recofloor, we are fortunate to work alongside members who invest passionately in developing the next generation, ensuring the flooring sector remains skilled, sustainable, and ready for the challenges ahead.

One such member is Geoff Acomb & Sons Ltd, who shared how vital apprenticeships are to the future of their business.

“At Geoff Acomb & Sons Ltd, apprenticeships are central to the future of our business. They are about more than just learning a trade — they are about building long-term careers and strengthening our industry. By investing in training our own apprentices through NVQ Level 2 programmes, we are safeguarding traditional skills and ensuring our high standards of workmanship, professionalism, and sustainability are carried forward for years to come” comments Operation Manager, Hayley Acomb.

Seeing the talent and dedication of young professionals first‑hand is inspiring, and we are proud of every member who champions training, development, and opportunity within their teams.

Apprentices themselves also speak highly of the experience. Rob Whinham, an apprentice at Geoff Acomb & Sons, shared:

“Working at Geoff Acomb & Sons has been an incredibly rewarding experience. From day one, I felt welcomed into a positive and supportive work environment where teamwork and mutual respect are genuinely valued. One of the standout aspects is the Geoff Acomb & Sons high standard of work and therefore the quality of coaching and mentoring. Being part of a team that consistently delivers such quality gives a real sense of pride and accomplishment.”

Apprenticeships strengthen our industry — and we extend our appreciate and celebrate all those helping shape its future.
