Simplify flooring upgrades with Tilemaster Adhesives: Lay new flooring over sound ceramic or vinyl tiles

Lifting old tiles or flooring to lay a new floor can be time consuming and difficult depending on the adhesive that was originally used, and it isn’t always necessary.

Says Tilemaster Adhesives: ‘Where the previous floor consists of sound ceramic or vinyl tiles, it’s a relatively simple task to ensure they’re all firmly stuck down and not cracked or broken, prime them with Tilemaster Prime+ Grip and use a suitable smoothing compound to cover them and level and smooth the floor.’

Tilemaster Adhesives recommends Tilemaster LevelFlex+ FINISH which, the company says, has been developed to give a superb surface finish allowing resilient floorcoverings to be laid directly on top of the surface.

‘This is a flexible fibre-reinforced smoothing compound that’s rapid setting and drying, allowing foot traffic after 2.5 hours and floorcoverings to be applied after four hours,’ says the company.
‘Where the existing floor has had to be lifted, adhesive and flooring grade bitumen residues are often left behind, and many smoothing compounds cannot be used over these. LevelFlex+ FINISH can be applied in depths from 2mm to 60mm and works well over these residues.’

It can also be used over asphalt, existing vinyl and ceramic tiles, steel, as well as calcium sulphate and sand and cement screeds, and concrete, says the company, adding that it’s moisture-tolerant making it suitable for use to pre-smooth the floor before installation of an epoxy dampproof membrane.

‘Once the floor is smoothed, Tilemaster Eco-3000 HT should be used to install the floorcovering. This high temperature universal adhesive is suitable for installing LVT, PVC, vinyl flooring as well as carpet and textiles onto a wide variety of substrates. It’s ideal for use in conservatories, as well as other buildings with large expanses of glass where direct sunlight may heat the floor.’

Tilemaster Eco-3000 HT has been formulated with a fast tacking-off time, the company continues. ‘Flooring can be installed after as little as 10 minutes, when the adhesive is semi-tacked off and has reached its ‘anti-slide’ state.’
