Marlowe House is a Police Regional Learning Centre in Sidcup, London. It was built in 1966, and the building is used for many purposes across its 17 floors. These include administrative offices, various fitness-based training rooms, and other facilities for the Metropolitan Police.
The offices in Marlowe House needed a full flooring refurbishment, with new floorcoverings and accessories. M&S Carpets and Flooring was employed to implement the refurb.
Due to the high level of foot traffic in the building, the flooring itself would need to be hard wearing and easy to clean and maintain. This also meant that the entrance matting and stair nosings which were installed would need to be high quality, to help protect the floorcovering from dirt and grime, and to keep people safe.
Two mats were needed, both 2.5m by 2.5m. The entrance matting would need to be durable, and effective at removing debris from both foot traffic and wheeled traffic. This is vital, as many trips, slips and falls occur in buildings where mud, dirt, water, and other detritus has created an unsafe surface, particularly in entrance areas. The stair nosings needed to be slip resistant, safe, and long lasting.
The Approach
M&S Carpets and Flooring contacted Quantum Flooring to discuss which primary matting and stair nosings would be best for the project. It was decided that Quantum’s Belgravia matting would be used for the project, along with S-Range Slenderline stair nosings to be fitted to the steps.
The Belgravia is a highly durable primary entrance matting with a closed construction. This ensures that all debris is captured in the matting, allowing it to be cleaned simply and safely. The Belgravia matting for Marlowe House includes aluminium scraper treads along with tufted nylon wiper strips. Together, these maximise the amount of dirt and moisture which is retained by the matting system.
Quantum’s Supply and Fit service was used to install the matting system. After measuring both matwells with the free QSMS measuring service, a Quantum Matting Technician fitted the Belgravia primary mattings themselves. In this way, Quantum ensured a simple and reliable service from specification all the way through to installation.
The Outcome
M&S Carpets and Flooring did a fantastic job on the Marlowe House refurbishment. The offices look great, and ready for use again. Quantum’s Supply and Fit service ensured that the two primary mattings were fitted promptly, and were a perfect fit for the matwells.
Marlowe House now has world class matting systems in place; the Belgravia is hard-wearing, effective, and easy to clean. It isn’t just a high-performance matting, it also looks very professional, with black wiper strips contrasting well with the aluminium scrapers.
With Quantum’s help, M&S Carpets and Flooring provided Marlowe House with a modern refurbishment, helping to ensure safety and comfort for the employees working within the building for many years to come.
