Mapei LVT

Mapei’s range of acrylic-based adhesives for LVT combine a host of benefits, for a safe, fast, and easy installation. They can be used for a wide range of material tyapes, in many different settings, from heavy duty areas demanding a high temperature solution, to general bonding. Mapei’s John Monaghan presents three best-selling options, with advice on achieving a flawless finish.

Mapei Ultrabond Eco 4 LVT
Developed specifically for luxury vinyl tiles, Mapei Ultrabond ECO 4 LVT is a high temperature wet-bed dispersion adhesive with the addition of fibres. It provides excellent wetting, even with difficult coverings, is highly shear resistant, and provides very good dimensional stability. In commercial environments, it is suitable for use with castor wheel chairs. This adhesive is also EMICODE EC1 Plus certified (very low emission). It has a waiting time of 0-10 minutes and an open time of 20-30 minutes; it is set to light foot traffic within 3-5 hours and floors are ready to use in 24-48 hours.

The addition of fibres in Ultrabond ECO 4 LVT allows for a little flexibility on substrates, like plywood, which could possibly expand in some circumstances when warm, and shrink when exposed to very cold temperatures.

As a general preference, many installers will use a pressure sensitive type adhesive. When applied in areas not subjected to temperature fluctuations, these adhesives are designed to offer a non-permanent bond. This can be beneficial if floors are replaced, as it removes the need to carry out time consuming repairs to smoothing compounds. To remove tiles, you merely lift them off the substrate and replace them; the new tiles are lightly rolled with a heavy weighted roller to ‘bed’ them in.

Another advantage of pressure sensitive adhesives is that the ‘open’ or working time is much longer than a ‘permanent’ adhesive. As a result, larger areas can be spread out and a quicker installation can be achieved. Care should be taken when using these adhesives to ensure they are not applied in areas subjected to high temperatures.

Mapei Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus
A universal high temperature adhesive for resilient floors, Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus is an EMICODE EC1 Plus hard set, highly shear resistant wet-bed dispersion adhesive. It can be used as a universal adhesive, as well as being particularly suitable for heavy duty areas requiring an exceptionally high strength bond.

In areas prone to extreme temperature fluctuations – like conservatories or installations close to windows – a high temperature adhesive with a higher bond strength, like Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus, is essential. It ensures that vinyl or rubber tiles are not allowed to expand or contract and eliminates gapping or tenting. The adhesive is suitable for level and absorbent surfaces and for use with underfloor heating. It has a waiting time of 0-10 minutes and an open time of 20-30 minutes; it is set to light foot traffic within 3-5 hours and floors are ready to use in 24-48 hours.

Mapei’s Ultrabond Eco V4 Evolution – both characteristics in one formulation
To suit all laying preferences, Ultrabond Eco V4 Evolution is a versatile product that can be applied as a pressure sensitive adhesive or as a wet set adhesive for a permanent fixing. Providing strong, high initial tack, and an extended open time, the adhesive can be used on all types of resilient and textile flooring, in residential, commercial and industrial locations. The product’s hard adhesive bead provides an exceptionally strong bond when laid wet. Ultrabond Eco V4 Evolution is also an EMICODE EC1 Plus certified product. It has a waiting time of 10-20 minutes, an open time of 40-50 minutes (or 70-80 for pressure sensitive adhesion). It is set to light foot traffic within 3-5 hours and ready for use after 24-48 hours.
