Raven Flooring use UltraFloor DPM IT to create the structural membrane

FLOORING contractor, Raven Flooring, has used UltraFloor Level IT Two to install 540sq m of flooring at Sandville Self Help Foundation in Bridgend.

Background
The much-loved Sandville Self Help Foundation proudly supports people with life-limiting and life-changing conditions. The Sandville team has created a soothing and comforting environment by offering physical, social, emotional and psychological support for individuals and their families going through the toughest of times.

In 2022, the therapy rooms had a much-welcomed makeover to further enhance the fantastic services offered by the Foundation.

The challenge
The therapy rooms were located in an old farmhouse without a structural DPM. This needed to be rectified before flooring could be installed. Furthermore, the clients using the therapy rooms are vulnerable and therefore it was of the utmost importance the floor was beautifully smooth and bump-free to avoid dangerous trip hazards.

The solution
Before work began at this inspirational site, Alan Collins, technical training and site support manager at UltraFloor, visited the premises to carry out a full site specification. Raven Flooring began by removing contaminants and debris from the subfloor and once cleaned, used UltraFloor DPM IT to create the structural membrane.

DPM IT is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy resin system for use as a surface dampproof membrane. Designed to provide protection against subfloor moisture, DPM IT reportedly has a pot-life of 45-75 minutes, a cure time of five hours and boasts a 98% RH floor moisture tolerance.
Once cured, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer was applied across the 540sq m before applying Level IT Two at a 3mm depth.

Says the company: ‘Formulated to promote the adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sq m at 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.

‘There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor-leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.’

UltraFloor adds: ‘With a set time of 2.5 hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floorcoverings after just eight hours, making it a suitable choice for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two-component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time. After just a few hours, Raven Flooring could install the Invictos Maximum LVT and Safety Flooring.’

Results
The clients at Sandville Self Help Foundation are now able to enjoy the beautiful therapy rooms.
On the performance of UltraFloor, Steve Haycox, director at Raven Flooring, commented: ‘We were very happy with the materials that have been used and we’re still continuing to use UltraFloor moving forward. The sales and technical support was fantastic.’
