UltraFloor’s expert solutions used at Ninja Warrior UK adventure park in Chelmsford

Adrenaline junkies are now able to complete the world-famous Ninja Warrior UK obstacle course in Chelmsford, Essex, owing to UltraFloor’s expert smoothing compounds and Tricas Flooring’s expertise.

Background
Chelmsford-based Ninja Warrior UK Adventure Park, inspired by the TV smash hit, opened its doors to the public in summer 2023. The fun-packed activity course includes climbing, balancing and swinging obstacles, most of which needed a supersmooth floor so participants could safely complete the course as quickly as possible.

The challenge
Tricas Flooring needed subfloor preparation materials that would provide a super smooth finish – dodging lumps and bumps in the floor was not one of the challenges. The obstacles themselves also posed a challenge for the flooring team including levelling the infamous 3.6m high Warped Wall.

The solution
To begin, Tricas Flooring ground the concrete substrate and cleared the area of dust, dirt or contaminants. Once ready, the entire 3,000sq m was primed using UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer.

Says the company: ‘Formulated to promote the adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sq m at 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.

‘Once cured, and in preparation for the Carpet, LVT and Polyflor floorcoverings, Level IT Two and Level IT Super Flex 30 were trowel applied at depths between 3 and 5mm.

‘Developed with a high polymer content, Level IT Super Flex 30 boasts superior flexible properties, making it the perfect smoothing underlayment for floors where movement is likely – ideal for locations such as Ninja Warrior UK.

‘What’s more, subfloors prepared using Level IT Super Flex 30 are available to receive foot traffic in as little as 30 minutes, bonded floorcoverings after one hour and resin finishes and forklift traffic after just 24 hours, allowing you to move on to another project quickly.’

The company continues: ‘There are many reasons Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to various subfloors in commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.’

Results
On completing this project, Alex Page, senior contracts manager at Tricas Flooring, commented: ‘All the materials were fantastic and the flow was exceptional.’
