Ultrasyntec celebrates a quarter of a century to quality in industrial flooring

ON 18 September 2021, industrial flooring contractors Ultrasyntec celebrates a significant milestone. The company is 25, demonstrating ‘a quarter of a century of commitment to quality and performance in industrial flooring’.

When founder Tom Hoyle first established Ultrasyntec in 1996, his focus was to ensure the business was structured around the guidelines then governing much larger organisations. He put the focus firmly on essential elements including professionalism, excellence in customer service, dedication to health and safety and occupational health for his people, as well as the desire to innovate alongside changing techniques and materials available to the resin flooring industry.

Now, 25 years later, his vision has been fulfilled, says the company. ‘Today, more than 80% of Ultrasyntec’s turnover is the result of repeat business, demonstrating the levels of customer care this forward-thinking company continues to achieve on a day to day basis. Many of these are challenging and imaginative projects, where Ultrasyntec creates effective and practical solutions designed around customer requirements.’

It’s a second generation company, too – management has passed to Tom’s son Will Hoyle and Lee Sunderland, both of whom have worked in the business for more than a decade and who are now focused on ensuring the continued growth and success of the Ultrasyntec business.

Expanding the business
Says the company: ‘The scope of the business is varied and comprehensive. Completed projects range from high build floor coatings through to heavy duty food grade polyurethane screeds as well as liquid pump screeds and traditional sand and cements screeds. Industry sectors served include food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering, and even military applications.’

Specifications have been developed to match challenging requirements including heat resistance, anti-slip, antistatic and aesthetically demanding interior design requests.
‘Alongside this, specialist services provided by Ultrasyntec cover quality stainless-steel drainage systems and hygienic kerbings for the food industry and other hygiene-sensitive businesses to facilitate rigorous wash down procedures.’

Focus on health & safety and staff training
In line with Tom’s original commitment to health and safety, Ultrasyntec continues to focus on building H&S awareness and implementing safe working practices. The company is CHAS-accredited and Safecontractor approved.

In addition, senior members of staff have completed the CITB site managers’ safety training scheme (SMSTS) and (SSSTS), ensuring all projects are managed onsite in accordance with relevant H&S legislation, underlining competence, and efficiency.

Continues the company: ‘As a family business with family standards, Ultrasyntec focuses on excellent employee welfare and staff engagement, with an exceptionally high level of staff retention. The company demonstrates consistent commitment to training, development, and career progression of employees, supporting relevant staff to complete Level 2 NVQ in resin flooring. All staff hold CSCS cards. This level of continuous training helps to strengthen both skills and quality. The company holds a Platinum Award for its commitment to improving competence in construction, and has now registered more than 90% of its workforce under the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme.

‘Recent industry-specific training funded by Ultrasyntec for employees includes underfloor heating and the design and installation of stainless-steel drains, opening up new installation opportunities, as well as pump screed courses run through FeRFA, the resin flooring association.’

Focus on quality
With, at it says, a business built around professionalism and quality standards, Ultrasyntec has always been a member of the FeRFA, which takes a leading role in developing national and international standards for resin flooring, screeding, and surface preparation.

Ultrasyntec recognises the vital role played by FeRFA, and is committed to FeRFA’s aims and objectives for the industry. The company works to acknowledged FeRFA standards in terms of operational processes, management, technical services, training, health & safety, and business integrity.

In turn, Ultrasyntec has won several FeRFA awards over the years, including contractor of the year and project of the year – won twice by the company – as well as receiving highly commended accolades in categories such as small project of the year and trainer of the year.

A personal approach to customer service
Continues the company: ‘Ultrasyntec continues to win business and drive growth through dedication to customer service. Special achievements and third-party accreditation underline these levels of commitment.

‘Ultrasyntec has dedicated senior personnel to customer communications, with an established end of contract customer satisfaction process which addresses all aspects of each job. Sustained, outstanding levels of customer service have won the company repeat business which accounts for 80% of total turnover.’

Environmental awareness and sustainability
The growing importance of sustainability issues over the past 25 years continues to impact on the business, and Ultrasyntec says it’s committed to sustainability and environmental awareness in all its dealings.

‘Resource efficiency is always an important consideration, and the company has successfully reduced year on year the level of all waste streams being sent to landfill. As part of the ‘halving waste to landfill’ scheme run by FeRFA, Ultrasyntec operates a clear and documented environmental policy in accordance with current legislation and statutory requirements.’

Driving innovation into the future
Ultrasyntec says it maintains a continuous watching brief on changes in the market, to ensure product/process developments and new application techniques are optimised to the benefit of the company’s customers.

‘Marking 25 years in the industry, Ultrasyntec has undertaken a brand refresh and presents a new face to the outside world, ready for the challenges of the next quarter century!’
