What is action for clean air?
Action for Clean Air is Global Action Plan’s mission to fuel the clean air movement by mobilising and enabling people and organisations to act on air pollution and ensure their voice is heard. As part of this mission, they run clean air day, which is the UK’s largest air pollution campaign, bringing together communities, businesses, schools, and the health sector.
The annual celebration, which takes place every June, is part of Global Action Plan’s Action for Clean Air campaign. It’s designed to bring together communities, improve public understanding of air pollution, build awareness of how it can affect our health and what we can do to tackle it.
Why does Action for Clean Air matter?
Every year, air pollution causes up to 36,000 deaths across the UK. The World Health Organisation recognises air pollution is the largest environmental health risk. Celebrating National Clean Air Day matters because it:
- Focuses attention on air pollution
- Helps improve public understanding and increases levels of air pollution busting behaviours
- Showcases that a cleaner air future is both possible and desirable
- Demonstrates large-scale support for clean air, giving decision makers a mandate to implement the system changes required
To breathe clean air every day, we need to make rapid changes. From adopting electric vehicles and avoiding millions of car journeys to slashing construction emissions and boycotting products that cause pollution in our homes, there’s plenty of work to do.
Why do you need to think about tackling air pollution for your project?
Whether you’re working on commercial or residential properties, air pollution can pop up anywhere. It can affect people differently, and therefore can put the success of your project at risk.
For example, many factors can trigger asthma attacks, which is becoming a common condition owing to increasing air pollution. While it’s common practise for commercial buildings and high traffic areas to use carpet, this isn’t the best practice for reducing air pollution and protecting the people using the area.
How can Impervia Flooring help reduce your project’s air pollution?
Unlike carpet, which cannot be easily cleaned and sanitised on a daily basis, our Impervia Flooring is the perfect choice to combat air pollution for commercial and residential projects.
With no formaldehyde or other chemical substances that can contaminate home and office spaces, Impervia’s anti-bacterial finish is perfect for sufferers of Asthma and other respiratory diseases.
Although our antibacterial finish means it’s better than other flooring options, it doesn’t mean it’s antivirus. However, owing to its durable waterproof properties, it can be cleaned regularly with disinfectants, keeping your floor as hygienic as possible.
We’re certified by Greenguard and FloorScore by SCS
We’ve done our utmost to ensure our flooring is using the latest technology to exceed standards for suitability and sustainability. That’s why our flooring is certified by Greenguard and FloorScore by SCS.
Greenguard Certification helps buyers identify interior products and materials that have low chemical emissions, improving the quality of the air in which the products are used.
When a product is Greenguard certified, it means it’s been tested and scientifically proven to have low chemical emissions and is guaranteed to give off only low levels of VOCs (carbon-based chemicals that easily become gases).
Indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, so Greenguard certification ensures our flooring helps protect commercial and residential properties. FloorScore is the most recognised indoor air quality (IAQ) certification standard for hard surface flooring materials, adhesives, and underlayments. It’s developed by SCS with the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI).
FloorScore tests and certifies hard surface flooring and flooring adhesive products, using a rigorous program to ensure they meet stringent indoor air quality emissions requirements.
Poor indoor air quality is caused by inadequate ventilation, poor cleaning, and excessive emissions of VOC’s from surfaces and finishes. Our FloorScore certification ensures our flooring contributes to healthier indoor air quality which improves morale and work performance. By investing in our products for your project, you can guarantee the flooring you place is operating at the highest standard for improving air quality.
