so you can make an informed decision when selecting a space’s foundation.

CHOOSING the floor for your project is a big decision. Afterall, it takes up such a huge proportion of any room. There are a lot of material myths out there which can lead to confusion when shopping. Here, I’ll debunk some of the most common misconceptions and give you the flooring facts – so that you can make an informed decision when selecting a space’s foundation.

MYTH: Vinyl flooring is outdated
It’s true that in the ‘70s, vinyl was popular. However, it was frequently installed poorly and contributed to an unappealing retro design trend. A big, seamless sheet of vinyl rolled across a living room floor didn’t look good back then and certainly doesn’t look good now. Vinyl flooring has seen a surge in popularity recently due to its versatility, making it a desirable option for residential and commercial spaces.

Beautiful, realistic flooring designs are now commonplace, and modern manufacturing techniques allow vinyl flooring to be made in different formats, such as tile and planks, and an intelligent click connection enables this all-rounder floor to be easily installed. There are many misconceptions about vinyl, notably that it is cheap-looking and not hardwearing. Although this may have been the case many years ago, vinyl has increased its design prowess and technological capabilities.

MYTH: Engineered wood is ‘fake’ wood
Engineered wood is made from real wood. However, instead of a single wood plank, it has a high-quality plywood core with a thin layer of hardwood on top. This provides the same classic look and feel of hardwood, but at a lower price point and with added durability.

MYTH: Laminate looks cheap
Advances in laminate technology have led to highly realistic visuals and textures, giving the material a beautiful and luxurious look. Laminate is embossed, meaning that the texture matches the wood grain visual for an organic effect. To an untrained eye, high-quality wood-inspired laminate flooring is often indistinguishable from real wood.
