Kerakoll | The natural choice

ARCHITECTS Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti of deepdesign, alongside industrial designer, Edoardo Radice were responsible for the design of Smeg’s new showroom, making significant use of KERAKOLL products. The interior design is said to be minimalist but made warm and welcoming using stone and wood. Features such as glass surfaces, large modular display furniture, counter tops in marble, unfilled travertine, and wooden slats cascade down the staircase.

All three floor levels are covered with the same industrial wood flooring in solid whitewashed oak, which has reportedly been laid to give the perception of infinite wooden strips.

The flooring is from the Kerakoll Design House collection. This is an integrated interior design project comprising ten materials including cement, resin, micro resin coatings and wood. Legno+ Small Natural is solid oak flooring with chamfered edges and ends and a hand-worked finish, which is covered in situ with 2 micro resin layers, one decorative, the other protective. It was laid to the ground floor, basement, lower basement and mezzanine.

Before laying the subfloor was consolidated using EP21, a liquid damp proof membrane, and L34 Flex was used as the adhesive. Both these products are said to have very low VOC emissions and be solvent free.
A team of 4 from Kerakoll was involved in the project, helping with the flooring specification and providing technical assistance.
