‘Inspiration from nature drives our sustainable initiatives’

Paragon, a UK-based commercial carpet tile manufacturer in Yorkshire, prides itself on using the latest manufacturing techniques and sustainable materials. Founded 29 years ago as a purpose-built facility, it employs over 100 people across the group.

‘We’re in the top echelons of the commercial carpet sector,’ says David Rhodes, group managing director. ‘We export to over 28 countries across Europe, Africa, Australasia, the Middle East, and Scandinavia.’

At this year’s CDW, Paragon launched Elemental, its new product range inspired by nature and produced on a new multimillion-pound machine. Made with 100% recycled nylon and our Envirobase backing, which contains over 70% recycled materials, it’s a sustainable option that is available in four designs and nine colourways – 36 options in total.

‘CDW was the platform to launch Elemental and showcase Paragon to the London design community,’ says David. ‘Our brand is known for performance, quality, and availability. This marks our move toward a more sustainability-focused product line.’

David believes Paragon’s longevity gives it an edge. ‘We’ve got historical quality, and we manufacture in the UK. The business began as a family firm and now has new owners committed to investing in manufacturing, product, and design.’

Paragon has ambitious plans for the rest of the year and into 2026. The vision includes further enhancing its range of products, particularly in high-end design ranges. The company will also continue its pursuit of carbon neutrality and sustainability.

‘We’ll invest in new equipment and market-leading manufacturing techniques. It’s a tough climate, but we’re multifaceted and well known to UK and global contractors.’

Paragon’s main markets include education – universities, schools, and student housing – as well as high street retail and offices. The office sector took a hit during Covid due to reduced occupancy, but a slow recovery is underway, David points out, adding, ‘Some sectors moved to LVT for ease of cleaning, but carpet helps reduce noise, which is vital in settings like schools,’ says David.

David has more than 35 years’ experience in commercial carpet tiles, having worked at Interface and The Carpet Tile Company, before becoming Paragon’s group managing director in 2015.

‘We’re the only UK manufacturer offering three product types – fibre-bonded, tufted, and woven—all in-house,’ he says. ‘In addition, we operate from two factory sites: Paragon and Mat.Works in Rotherham and Heckmondwike and Playrite in Liversedge.’
