CLERKENWELL is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, making it truly one of the most important design hubs in the world. To celebrate this rich and diverse community, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) has created a showcase of leading UK and international brands and companies presented in a series of showroom events, exhibitions and special installations that take place across the area.
Celebrating its 14th year in May 2023 (23-25) the award-winning CDW has firmly established itself as the UK’s leading independent design festival and annually attracts the international design community to this small area of London for three days of exciting events.
CDW was awarded the Best UK Tradeshow by the Association of Event Organisers in 2020. The judges commented CDW’s 10th edition was an ambitious event – it was an exceptionally complex project which pushed the traditional boundaries and delivered a city-wide scale event which was hugely impressive. It was creative, embraced sustainability and delivered great commercial results.
CDW is a jam-packed design festival consisting of 10 exhibition venues, 140-plus showrooms, engaging installations, topical talks with leading creatives, hundreds of programmed events, fringe activities from local practices and tantalising deals across EC1’s restaurants and bars.
CDW features several exhibition venues dotted across EC1, all showcasing a curated mix of leading brands and emerging talent covering furniture, lighting, textiles, surfaces, accessories and product design from around the world. Components of the show include:
- DESIGN FIELDS: Showcases leading furniture, lighting and product design from around the world. Alongside some of the most exciting home-grown designer-makers, the show presents a diverse range of the best in international contemporary design. Venue address: Spa Fields,
91 Skinner St, London EC1R 0WX - LIGHT: Held within the subterranean House of Detention, the former Victorian prison showcases an array of leading international lighting brands and spectacular stand-alone installations. Venue address: House of Detention,

(note this venue doesn’t have disabled access, due to the nature of this 19th century underground building). - PROJECT: Set in the beautiful grounds of St James Church, Project brings together a leading selection of contract furniture and surface brands from around the globe. St James Walk, London EC1R 0EA - ELEMENTS: Elements at Clerkenwell Design Week brings together a leading selection of ironmongery, hardware, switch plates and architectural accessories. The exhibition takes place within a street-market style pavilion on St John’s Square, acting as the go-to destination for designers looking for the perfect finish. - BRITISH COLLECTION: Highlighting local brands, British Collection is located in the atmospheric crypt of St James’s Church and showcases new design emanating from Britain.

St John. Sponsored by Beaulieu International Group. Venue address: The Order of St John, St John’s Square, London EC1V 4JJ (note this venue has limited disabled access as parts of the building date back to the 12th century). - CERAMICS OF ITALY: Working in collaboration with the Ceramics Association of Italy, the Italian Trade Agency will present a selection of brands in a custom-built venue.
