Mapei’s range features special components to accelerate drying

A good screed construction is the very foundation of a good floor installation. Along with performance and the environment, speed is often a key consideration – especially in ‘live’ commercial installations.

In response, Mapei’s range includes four fast-track ready products – Topcem, Topcem Pronto, Mapecem and Mapecem Pronto – which reportedly feature special components to accelerate drying.

Each system can be used to form a bonded, unbonded or floating screed on a new or existing substrate and is suitable for wood, PVC, linoleum, ceramic tiles, natural stone and carpet installations.

Says the company: ‘Mapei Topcem is a special fast-drying hydraulic binder that’s mixed with aggregates and water, and Mapei Topcem Pronto is the pre-blended, ready-to-use formulation that’s mixed with water. Both screeds set to light traffic after 12 hours. Ceramic/porcelain tiles can be laid after 24 hours, natural stone after two days and moisture sensitive floorcoverings, including resilient and wood, can be fixed after four days.’

The Mapecem range also includes a binder and premixed system and reportedly provides even faster timescales; Mapecem is mixed with graded aggregates and water, and Mapecem Pronto is the premixed formulation that’s mixed with water. Both formulations set to light foot traffic after 2-3 hours. Tiles and natural stone can be installed after three hours and resilient and wood coverings after 24 hours.

Concludes Mapei: ‘The Topcem and Mapecem series are ideal for use with underfloor heating, and for patching, repairing and replacing screeds in live commercial settings, internally and externally. The formulations are also EMICODE EC1 Plus certified for very low emissions of VOC.’
