PROKNEE kneepads offer you a choice of two cushion thickness options (5/8in and 1in).
Says the company: ‘While most of our customers prefer 1in cushion inserts (and we recommend them if you work on your knees more than eight hours a day, have had any knee problems or surgery, if you weigh 90kg or if you prefer the maximum protection we offer), some prefer 5/8in thickness.
‘These users (men and women alike) find this size allows for a deeper knee cup shape, which creates a better fit for those with thinner legs or smaller builds. Ultimately, it depends on what works best for each user.
‘All our replaceable custom laminated cushions utilise open-cell technology. This soft yet super-resilient foam provides even tension as the weight of your body is applied to it. This technology also prevents cushions from breaking down after the impact of a more than eight-hour day, meaning cushions continue to perform like new for years, rather than needing to be replaced after only a few months.’
Continues the company: ‘We call this performance consistent compression spring-back, helping absorb shock from constant kneeling. It also supports the meniscus by stabilising the area around the knee joint from excessive movement as weight is applied, which reduces joint wear-out and knee burn pain: the key to happy, healthy knees.’
How are these cushions able to perform so well? Says ProKnee: ‘Open cell foam allows air to flow in and out of the cells when applying pressure (such as kneeling), while the material around the cells allows it to maintain its properties. This allows the foam to be extremely flexible, soft and long-lasting, because it doesn’t decompress.
‘In comparison, closed cell foam (such as EVA) is made up of air-filled cells which, over time, lose all of their air, causing the cushion to compress and harden (think of squishing a balloon when it’s freshly inflated. It rebounds, but after some time, it deflates).’
Many customers find that, over several years, their cushions wear in like a great pair of leather boots and even prefer to keep working on the same old set of cushions. However, ProKnee’s parts are completely replaceable, aside from the frames, so you can upgrade just the parts you need (like our cushions) or get a Complete Rebuild kit to give your well-worn kneepads a refresh for a fraction of the cost of new.
Concludes ProKnee: ‘Choosing the right technology for the cushioning of your kneepad is crucial to long-lasting performance that feels good, but most importantly, preserves the long-term health of your knees.
