Save time and effort: Kerakoll UK’s Proflow finish allows new floors to be laid without removing old tiles or adhesive residue

LIFTING old tiles or flooring to lay a new floor can be time consuming and difficult depending on the adhesive that was originally used, and it’s not always necessary.

Says the company: ‘Where the previous floor consists of sound ceramic or vinyl tiles, it’s a relatively simple task to ensure they’re all firmly stuck down and not cracked or broken, prime them with Prime+ Grip and use a suitable smoothing compound to cover them and level and smooth the floor.’
Kerakoll UK recommends Proflow Finish which has been developed to give what’s described as a superb surface finish with a prolonged working time allowing resilient floorcoverings to be laid directly on top of the surface.

‘This is a flexible fibre-reinforced single component smoothing compound that is rapid setting and drying, allowing foot traffic after 90 minutes and floorcoverings to be applied after three-and-a-half hours. Where the existing floor has had to be lifted, adhesive and flooring grade bitumen residues are often left behind, and many smoothing compounds cannot be used over these. Proflow Finish can be applied in depths from 3mm to 60mm and works well over these residues.’

The company continues: ‘It can also be used over asphalt, existing vinyl and ceramic tiles as well as calcium sulphate and sand and cement screeds, and concrete. It’s moisture-tolerant making it suitable for use to pre-smooth the floor before installation of an epoxy dampproof membrane.’

It adds: ‘Once the floor is smoothed, Eco-3000 HT should be used to install the floorcovering. This high temperature universal adhesive is suitable for installing LVT, PVC, vinyl flooring as well as carpet and textiles onto a wide variety of substrates. It’s ideal for use in conservatories, as well as other buildings with large expanses of glass where direct sunlight may heat the floor.

‘Eco-3000 HT has been formulated with a fast tacking-off time. Flooring can be installed after as little as 10 minutes, when the adhesive is semi-tacked off and has reached its ‘anti-slide’ state.’
