F BALL and Co’s Styccobond F3 has been used to install Premium Putt artificial grass carpet on and around obstacles of two indoor 18-hole crazy golf courses at one of Europe’s largest crazy golf centres, involving what’s described as painstaking care and attention to detail to create smooth and seamless surfaces.

Husband-and-wife team Anthony and Lizzie Homewood conducted the installation as part of the refurbishment of Lost City Adventure Golf at The Cornerhouse leisure complex, in Nottingham, and worked with Homewood Adventure Golf to plan and execute the design of the courses.

They began by stripping away previous carpet floorcoverings from concrete subfloors and obstacles before scraping away old adhesive residues. Cracks and divots left after mechanical preparation were filled with F Ball’s Stopgap 400 Repair compound.

Says F Ball, ‘F Ball’s Stopgap Micro Rapid ultra-smooth, flexible, rapid-drying floor finishing compound was also applied to create a flawlessly smooth surface for floorcoverings and prevent imperfections in the final result.

‘With the subfloor fully prepared, the grass carpet was adhered with F Ball’s Styccobond F3. This required considerable skill as the carpet had to remain in one piece throughout each hole. It also involved cutting and moulding carpet to go on and around various obstacles, including rocks and a motorcycle wheel loop-the-loop.’

More than 50 years since it first launched, Styccobond F3 is still the UK’s most used flooring adhesive for the installation of textile floorcoverings, says the company. ‘The water-based rubber/resin flooring adhesive offers excellent wet-grab and benefits from an early buildup of strength.

‘It’s also protected against biodegradation and compatible for use with more than 70% of the 6,000 floorcoverings in the F Ball Recommended Adhesives Guide (RAG).’

Commenting on the project, Andrew Homewood said: ‘We undertake quite a few crazy golf course installations and have become specialists. We have go-to products for these, including Styccobond F3, which both help ease of installation and optimisation of the finished results and never let us down. This was no exception.’
