MAPEI systems have been specified at a Merseyside school as part of a rebuilding project to create net zero carbon in operation facilities.
The project, at Deyes High School in Maghull, was delivered by Kier and saw the school campus replaced with a new 10,000sq m building. Mapei floor preparation and installation systems – each featuring EMICODE: EC1 Plus formulations, with very low VOC formulations – were used to install over 4,000sq m of Tarkett vinyl sheet and carpet tiles throughout the building.
The installation was completed by Horizon Floors.
The project, funded from the Department for Education’s school rebuilding programme, included replacement of all structures on the 13-acre site, apart from the school’s 300-student sixth form. The new school campus spans three floors, with facilities including high-tech classrooms, specialist science labs and resource centre, art studio, multi-use games area, playing fields and sports pitches, and dance, drama, and fitness studios.
The new structure will be net zero carbon in operation and features a green roof, solar panels, treble glazed windows, and air source heating pumps. The large green site also includes a wildlife garden, nature trail and a habitat area to support learning and wellbeing.
During the flooring installation, Mapei Latexplan Trade – described by the company as a protein-free, low odour levelling and smoothing compound with high compressive strength – was used to level and smooth subfloors.
Surfaces were then prepared with Mapeproof Primer, described by Mapei as a one-component, rapid drying ready-to-use waterproof surface membrane and flooring was installed with Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus high temperature universal adhesive.
