IN the realm of interior design, flooring specifiers play a pivotal role in shaping spaces that resonate with functionality and aesthetics. Shaw Contract, an industry trailblazer, is dedicated to offering innovative flooring solutions that not only elevate designs but also prioritise the well-being of those who inhabit these spaces.
Consider, for instance, the remarkable project at the heart of this narrative – the Three UK Headquarters in Reading. This project was more than just an office endeavour; it marked a transformational journey in sync with the vision of specifiers. Three UK was undergoing a brand evolution, merging two offices, and striving to create a truly inclusive workplace for the future – an aspiration that deeply resonates with the specifier’s design philosophy.
Morgan Lovell, a renowned interior design firm, collaborated with Three Workspace, Gleeds’ project managers, and CBRE over an intense 12-month period, all under the constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, they breathed life into Three UK’s vision for a new way of working, ensuring a seamless transition from the past to the future.
The design process paid meticulous attention to the evolving company rebrand, requiring Morgan Lovell to seamlessly incorporate the shift in Three UK’s customer demographic into the office’s look and feel. It was crucial for specifiers that the office felt like a ‘home from home,’ supported by cutting-edge technology. Equally vital was the aspiration to craft an office space that would captivate both visitors and staff.
Here, Shaw Contract’s carbon-neutral Haven carpet tile collection came into play as the ideal choice for this project. The Honest and Identity styles were carefully selected to evoke an emotional connection to the concept of home. These tiles were skilfully used to create rug-like effects on the ground floor, adding to the sense of comfort while delivering a striking visual impact.
As one ascends through the office, the design subtly transitions to Graph carpet tiles from the Rapid Select collection in the calming Cobblestone colour. This strategic choice ensures that people can relax and work without being overwhelmed by incessant corporate messaging. The Rapid Select collection’s inclusion in the In-Stock UK program further enhances its appeal, allowing for swift 24-hour dispatch upon acknowledgment.
Environmental impact and sustainability were instrumental considerations in the design process. Three Workspace’s selection of a building with BREEAM Excellent, WELL Platinum, and an ‘A’ EPC rating set the stage for an environmentally conscious project. Morgan Lovell embraced circular economy principles, opting to reuse furniture that complemented the scheme and making conscientious product and material choices. Notably, all of Shaw Contract’s UK-made carpet tiles are Cradle to Cradle and Indoor Air Comfort Gold certified, reinforcing their commitment to environmentally friendly solutions.
This project beautifully illustrates Shaw Contract’s dedication to crafting sustainable and inclusive spaces, and it is just one among many. Flooring specifiers are at the forefront of translating vision into reality, and partnering with Shaw Contract means aligning your designs with a commitment to reducing waste, promoting responsible manufacturing practices, and contributing to a sustainable world.
For Shaw Contract, sustainability is an integral part of their DNA. They are pioneers of the Cradle-to-Cradle approach, emphasising sustainability as a core principle in their operations Their innovative Take-back scheme, named re[TURN], exemplifies this dedication. As a specifier, you play a pivotal role in shaping spaces that transcend aesthetics, prioritise well-being, and preserve the environment. The Three UK Headquarters project is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovative design, and eco-conscious choices in shaping the workplaces of the future. It is a reminder that the world of design isn’t just about what is seen; it’s about how it makes occupants feel and the positive impact it has on the world. Shaw Contract is leading the way towards a brighter, more sustainable future, and specifiers are an integral part of that journey.
